It's a very special case.
Such things don't happen in the real world... Not to my knowledge at least.

There is a tower in Dallas that has been stuck at 10 floors for roughly the same amount of time as Waterview. There was also a tower in Austin a few years back (believe it was Intel) that demolished its 6-7 story shell after the dot-com bust.

There's also a lot of unfinished towers in Bangkok as I recall.

How often do buildings that are 70% sold out not get built?

Dozens. When I was there last it looked like a skyscraper graveyard.

Some skyscraper just don't need to be born. I don't know anything of this tower. I heard something about it 4 years ago, then I lose track. I've seen alot of great towers die slow. And some just never make it pass the drawing board. It's sad but thats life.

I can't see the photo.

From flickr by tajasc. Waterview is the little one in the middle of the photo.

I was just walking south on Clark near Madison at 2pm and the tower crane was active and the cable was extended all the way down to street level. I watched it go all the way up to the roof with nothing attached. Does this mean construction is resuming? Hopefully it is not the crane operator removing its equipment! Lets hope its the former...

Doesn't look good, forms removed from the top and N side.

Oct 30 Bringing out form works

Oct 31 cleaner roof line.

Cleaned up sidewalk ( no more bulky formworks ).

Bringing in more space.

Makes me rage.

Anyway, its not like this hulk will sit for decades in such a prime location and with a huge portion already complete. I would hope when conditions improve the tower will continue to be built as planed. It would be a shame to have this destroyed in the near future and something lesser built than its original.

One day in the future we will look down on this rust stained concrete hulk from our flying cars and have to explain to our grandchildren (if they aren't chatting on cerebral implant phones) how it might have been a great building, far classier than the gold gilded Trump Towers 2, 3 and 4 with their twenty story tall video screens that just play a loop of Donald saying "I'm Trump and you're not!" over and over again.

Well, hopefully not.
