No, the Centauraus is unique instead of like a regular highriser. This makes it unique which is something we need in this industry.

Yeah man design has been chosen so everyone should give it a rest. Debating over a supposedly proposed design (look at the facade...friggin bubbles all over the buildings) is a waste of time and bandwidth.

Yesterday I visited the construction site and office of Centaurus, they have digged a big ditch around 60-80 feet and lot of excavators and bulldozer, dumpers were working on the site. The site office people told us that they will be giving possession to people in December 2010. The least space flat costed around 125 lacs.

7-star hotel designers

OUR STAFF REPORTER
ISLAMABAD - A team of engineers of world renowned company, WS Atkins, designer of Pak Gulf Construction (Pvt) Ltd mega project, The Centaurus, has arrived in Islamabad to supervise the piling work.

The team included Geotech Engineer Andrew Haris, Project Manager Paul Med Hurst and Quantity Surveyor Ghram Alcock. Chief Executive Officer PGCL Sardar Tanveer Ilyas disclosed this while talking to the media at a reception at the site office here.

He said piling would be at least 90 feet deep from the last of the total four basements of the project. He said these basements would be 60 feet deep and the digging work in this regard is at its final stages.

Project Manager of Atkins Paul Med Hurst said on the occasion that excavation and piling work at the project would be completed by the end of next month. The Centaurus, which is scheduled to be completed by 2010, comprises Pakistan’s first 7-star hotel, three high rise towers for residence and offices apartments and a five-storey shopping mall.

ISLAMABAD: The Centaurus, a multi-million mega Mixed Use Development Project, the first of its kind in Pakistan has reached piling work carried out according to international standards and safety laws, the next stage of Construction Programme.

The Piling Contracts have commenced under the direct supervision of professional Engineers. The Centaurus, being constructed in the federal capital by the Pak Gulf Construction (Pvt) Ltd, is Pakistan's first project, where the piling work is being carried out according to International standards and safety laws, a spokesman of the company said in a statement.The Centaurus is scheduled to be completed by December 2010, it comprises a seven-star deluxe hotel with 355 rooms; a corporate tower block with 22 floors, 320 luxurious residential apartments and an international standard shopping mall including a cinema complex.

The Centaurus Project is a joint venture of the Sardar Group of Companies and Al-Tamimi Group of Saudi Arabia. The total architectural and structural design has been carried out by WS Atkins who is one of the top five Architectural firms in the world. They have designed a very prestigious range of buildings throughout the world, which includes the Burj Al Arab; 21st Century Tower; Jumeriah Beach Hotel; Trump Hotel in Palm Jumeriah and the World Trade Centre in Bahrain and many more.

Keeping in view, the earthquake of 2006 Atkins geotechnical experts undertook a very detailed seismic survey to cover all aspects of earthquake design and probabilities. Pak Gulf has taken all recommendations into account when designing the buildings and the structures. This is the first time such an intensive investigation has been carried out and implemented. This is in accordance with the recommendations of the CDA.

The spokesman went on to explain that the piling was in two stages. The first stage is for Contiguous Piling, which protects the excavation during the construction of the basements. It is the first time Contiguous Piles have been used in the twin cities. The second stage is the Main Piling, which supports the whole of the structure. These piles are 34 meters in depth, normally 20 meters would be adopted for multi-storey buildings.

Some16 million cubic feet soil has so far been excavated at the site. In collaboration with the Environment Department of the CDA, this earth is being used in building parks at various sites of the capital.

Today there is this news about the proposed GHQ. it mentions that no highrise will be allowed near it. it also mentions the centaurus building to be 47 storeys.

Also the news reported that there is a GHQ would oppose the 50 storied builing in line with E-10 along the extension of blue area.

Does any one know of this building? and also the repeated mention of centaurus as 47 storeys?
