QATAR: The Pearl Qatar.

ACC Rocks Onto the Pearl as Two Big Names Join Forces

1/7/06:

ARABIAN Construction Company (ACC) has been awarded a US $170 million (QR619 million) contract to build a residential complex on the Pearl Qatar.

Qatar’s largest freehold project is being undertaken by United Development Company (UDC) and will cover 186 000 m2, over two parcels of land.

The residential and commercial development will include a mix of 26-storey towers and four- floor townhouses in the Porto Arabia district.

“We are honoured to have received this momentous contract from UDC for the Porto Arabia residential buildings on the Pearl-Qatar,” said Rasheed Mikati, director of ACC.

“There is tremendous growth in the GCC, and the level of development and technologically advanced construction practices being implemented here are a testament to the changes that have occurred in the GCC over the past 30 years.”

The two parcels of land are owned by UDC, which has commissioned QACC, the Qatari subsidiary of ACC, to execute a mixed-use development, incorporating commercial and residential elements in the downtown area of the development.

“Through QACC and our industry partners, we are also involved in several other projects in Qatar and we hope to increase our market share in the country,” added Mikati.

Calliston International/KEO International is the consultant on the $2.5 billion project, which is being developed off the coast of Doha, while the project manager is Dar Al Handasah (Shair and Partners).

Construction work will begin this month and is expected to be completed in late 2007.

ACC has been involved in commercial, residential and industrial projects in the Middle East and GCC since the late 1960s, including landmark projects such as the Etisalat headquarters in Abu Dhabi, Rose Tower, Al Mas Tower, and the new Park Place Tower on Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai; and is the main contractor for the $259 million Capital Plaza project in Abu Dhabi.

The company has also been contracted to build several other residential, commercial and hotel towers in Qatar and has plans to enter Saudi Arabia and Sudan as part of its expansion into Arab markets.

Pearl of construction: Lebanese firm, ACC, is pushing forward with its regional order book, with plans to expand into both Sudan and Saudi Arabia.
