The interchange of I-84 and I-91 on the northeast edge of downtown. It gets over 185,000 cars a day.

Mostly busy during rush hours. Once took 20 minutes to get through it once.

As seen from I-91 North

From I-84 west

As much as I would like to contribute towards this thread, my post is going to be speculation because I can't find official statistics anywhere. Here in Durban, I think Warwick Junction is probably the busiest. Cape Town would probably be the N1/M5 interchange, with Johannesburg's busiest being either Gillooly's Interchange or Buccleuch Interchange.

In Auckland there's a stretch of the Southern Motorway (SH1) between Gillies Ave and Khyber Pass Road that has close to 200,000 cars AADT. That's he busiest stretch of motorway in the country.

For the Bay Area, probably the MacArthur Maze, dunno the AADT, but all traffic to/from the Bay Bridge has to go through it, plus additional traffic.

The MacArthur Maze carries traffic from I-80, I-580 and I-880.

Their respective AADT's are 252,000 + 294,0000 + 220,000 + 146,000 = 912,000

912,000 / 2 = 456,000 vehicles per day on the interchange.

But it's not the busiest intersection I'm sure, just the busiest stretch of road. The busiest intersection I'd imagine would be the CMJ which has SH16 Harbour and West as well as SH1 North and South joining each other in the CBD. I'd hazard a guess that the AADT would be higher on this than 200,000.

Where do you take all this data from, Chris?

Caltrans publishes their AADT numbers for all highways annually.

That's true svarty. I think the busiest non motorway to motorway interchange is at Greenlane, which deals with around 50,000 cars a day.

I don't know the AADT number, but the busiest interchange in Perth would be either the Mitchell/Kwinana Freeway(2) and Graham Farmer Freeway(8) interchange, or maybe the Narrows Interchange.

Tonkin Hwy/Roe Hwy is quite busy as well and it's a diamond interchange can you believe it!

Goofy Interchanges

Well, after prowling these boards for awhile I thought it would be time to give starting a new thread a go. This thread will consist of what can be considered as goofy interchanges - feel free to use Google Maps and other resources to place maps, pictures, and the like.

Oh, I would like to keep things pleasant around here so please no flaming, "My country/city/etc is better than yours" arguments, or other such negativity.

With that, I'll start with perhaps the classic goofy interchange: I-70/US 30/I-76 (PA Turnpike) in Breezewood, PA, USA

Austria, A10-A10. i guess it is supposed to be intersection A10 with roads 99 and 100. but this weird part of motorway built only for that interchange (it seems like that) carries also number A10. so, cannot be more confusing. or it can? sure it can! left turns at both directions at main motorway, while this wiener of motorway (so-called A10) has only right turns.

Tour in and around our Ile de Montréal just to grasp this region's dearth of well-conceived interchanges -- handfuls of such no-nos abound here, many of which must shock motoring visitors....it's so bad, schemers drummed up inverting the side of the road N Americans drive on for a whole, lengthy, multiple-kilometre (left-hand-driving) stretch of expressway, all in between a couple of goofy interchanges in the city's west end here....

Yeah, this has always been odd to me. It can be a 'lethal' interchange for Americans, who are used to handling with numbers only.

You're recalling goofy signage, while the interchange itself comes across as being fine.
