Now we have a more detailed map of the future extensions. The plan is not definitive, because the current metro development study, during which thousands of passengers were interviewed, has not been completed yet.

Wow, it is great to see such an ambitious proposal!

Athens and Greece are really investing in rail transit! This is great to see.

You are lucky! Line 3 to the airport will probably open on August 27.

Here is a relevant article in English:

The only mistake in it is that they refer to the airport line as "line 2".

it was not very wise to close the metro airport connection during the summer. Anyway 2009 and 2010 will be great years for Athens metro.

from today the line 3 to the airport is opening again. Also the new station of Nomismatokipio on line 3 opens today. untill the end of the year 5 new stations are going to open and 4 new stations in early 2010 (i hope so) it seems that athens metro projects are going well!

The other day I took some photos of Maroussi station on line 1. This station is one of my favorite stations in the whole system, not only because it is one of the few elevated stations, but also because of its futuristic design.

The surrounding area is full of open-air cafes. Too bad that in a few years, when construction works for metro line 4 start, this pleasant area is going to be in a mess.

Attiko Metro announced the winner of the bidding for the new trains in 2011.
It's Hydundai Rotem (again).
They are called Series III.

i already love them , but the front could be better...
what's your opinion?

why confusion? it's logical...they will be like Series I, only with 750V...to serve the extensions of Line 2 and 3.
