This is probably a little OT but I wasn't sure where else to post this question.

What happened to the 5km light rail line in Kalamata? Was it ever built?

Thanks for your interest in Athens metro. You picked some really impressive works of art on flickr.
Btw, Frankfurt U-bahn has also some artistic elements, the stations are quite dark though. That's why you won't find any U-bahn pictures if you follow the link in my signature.

I love your metro stations!
They look good and interesting, modern and have taste.
Just like a place you enjoy being at.

It goes back to the mentality I really appreciate, which is: If you do something, then do it properly.

I wish we had more of this mentality here in germany. Almost all metro stations here look cheap and ugly, including the new ones.
Why? Because the municipalities are afraid of angering the people by "wasting" their tax-money.
So they end up spending like billions on a new metro line, but they save a few thousands on the interior of the stations. Great logic!

Athens Metro also takes care of the areas around its stations. Here are some works of art outside Peristeri station, due to open later this year:

As for Germany, not all subways are dull. Some cities, e.g. Munich, Nuremberg, have really modern stations!

Hey now Boston T stations are one of the better looking stations in the US. Except for Green line stations, those are so dirty.

Why is there such a gap between the green and the red line south of the centre towards the sea?

Edit: Nevermind, there is a tram going there apparently.

Well, you gave the answer.

Here are 2 stations expected to open later this year:

Haidari

Peristeri

Looks like Austerity has caught the ambitious plans. Mine was of no less than 16 tube lines, 3 artificial islands and an S-Bahn network totalling over 450 miles.

Well, here is a graph I also posted in another thread:

y-axis: Greek GDP in billion euros, in constant 2010 prices.

Real growth in Greece started in 1950, after the end of the civil war. Last year we had the worst recession in all this period (-4.5%) and this year is not going to be much better. Nevertheless, from 2012 growth is going to be positive. Construction works for metro line 4 are not going to start before 2012 anyway, since preliminary studies are not complete yet. We don't even know the exact location of each station.
