I really like the markets at Ipoh particularly Rapat Setia wet market. although dirty I always enjoy the atmosphere, hope they refurbish it soon.

Anyway, I hope Ipoh could get another mall or two like Kinta City, as Kinta City and Tesco is bursting at its brims, Ipoh folks are so desperate to spend time at these places that they are willing to park their cars anywhere.

Council set on reviving complex

The Star, 14 February 2008

AN Information Technology (IT) firm has shown interest in setting up an IT centre at the former Super Kinta shopping centre in Ipoh.

“The city council and the company is now in the midst of working out a plan,” said Perak Urban and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Chang Ko Youn.

He said the council was also trying to get some other retailers from Kuala Lumpur and groups specialising in Chinese products to operate at the centre, adding that Perak-based businessmen were also welcome to come up with proposals to revive the complex.

Chang was speaking to reporters after presenting scholarships sponsored by Ipoh Rotary Club to 136 students from 12 schools at SM ACS Ipoh recently.

He said negotiations between the council and two companies earlier to set up a hyper-market at the place had been called off as the council could not reach an agreement with the two parties.

On another matter, Chang said the pro-posed Tesco hypermarket at Station 18 in Pengkalan had been approved by the council and Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry.

“Construction will start soon and the hypermarket is expected to start business in early 2009,” he said.

“With the existence of the hypermarket in Pengkalan, hopefully we can revive the eco- nomic activities while creating employment opportunities in that area,” he added.

IT Centre? It would be a good news. But how and when?

RM100m training base in Ipoh
By SYLVIA LOOI

COME 2010, the Royal Malaysian Police air unit will have a training base in Ipoh. To be located next to the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport, the RM100mil base will be spread over 16 hectares.

Police Air Unit commander Senior Asst Comm (II) Datuk Chuah Ghee Lye said there would be a total of four police air unit bases in the country when the Ipoh base was completed in 2010.

“The other bases are located at Sungai Besi in Selangor, which is the headquarters, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu.

“The Ipoh base will be our main training ground for future police air wing pilots,” he told a press conference after the project’s ground breaking ceremony by Perak Indus-trial Development, International Trade and In-dustry and Co-operatives Development Com-mittee chairman Datuk Ramly Zahari.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Ismail Omar, who was present, said the new base was part of efforts by the police force to further enhance its air unit.

“It will enable us to provide better services to the people,” he said.

Thanking the Federal Government for the project, Ramly said it was a long awaited de-velopment as the base had originally been planned under the Sixth Malaysia Plan.

Among those present at the ceremony were Perak police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Zulkifli Abdullah, his deputy Senior Asst (I) Datuk Hadi Ho Abdullah, Internal Security Ministry secretary-general Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof, Perak state secretary Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Hashim and Ipoh Datuk Bandar Datuk Rafiai Moktar.

Tower C Open for Registration (Perak Tourism Hub)

Due to overwhelming response, Perak Tourism Hub is rapidly moving into another phase of development, now featuring Tower C Luxury Condominium.

Tower C will further enhance the lifestyle of the people living in it as they are blessed with the utmost convenience of accessibility from and to all directions, namely the Perak South Interchange, government agencies, hospitals and shopping complexes.

In addition to the contemporary urban design of the condominium and wonderful panaromic view from the condominium, you can further enjoy the excellent facilities provided in the premise.

Recently, I went back to Ipoh on Spring Festival, following are the progress of some of the development in Ipoh:

1. Tesco Station 18 Pengkalan - under contruction but very slow pace, except some piling works, shop houses near to Tesco taking shaped very fast, may be Keris Properties want to sell and promote the shop houses on Spring Festival. The project is just walking distant from my house (not more than 3 minutes).

2. There was a banner outside the Ipoh Tower Hotel (260 rooms) suppose to be ready on 08/08/2008. From the exterior of the project, it will not be ready until next year 2009.

3. No progress at all the Perak Tourism Hub, still the same as the last time I went back to Ipoh, Oct 2007.

4. Kinta Riverfront Hotel Project only some piling works going on.

5. Glamour Commercial Project in Bercham - These project have been going on quite some time, very slow only one row of shop houses, the shopping complex is not taking shape yet.

Tesco catat hasil RM1.7 bilion

SHAH ALAM 27 Feb. - Tesco Stores (M) Sdn. Bhd.

Thanks for all the lovely photos, really miss Ipoh.
I think Ipoh really have lots of charm and charimatic of itself, that other cities in Malaysia that do not have. Again, it all depend on our local Government and MTPB to promote the destination. Melaka and Putrajaya are too artificial, not authentic.

India's Blair University to be set up in Perak

The Star, 7 March 08

IPOH: Perak will get its first foreign university when construction of the RM450mil Premier International University of Perak in Gua Tempurung is completed in 2010.

Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Tajol Rosli Ghazali said that the university would be set up by India’s Blair Education Services consortium, which has five universities in the subcontinent.

“Our children will not have to travel all the way to India to take up courses – the ones offered here would be cheaper and just as credible.

“The university can accommodate as many as 8,000 students,” he said after handing over land offer letters to Blair Education Services Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Dr R. Subramaniam here on Wednesday.

Tajol Rosli said the university would be built on a 101ha site in Gua Tempurung, some 20km from here.

Dr Subramaniam assured the state government that the construction of the campus would not affect the environment in the surrounding areas and Gua Tempurung.

The university will have five faculties – medical, dentistry, pharmaceuticals and allied health sciences, business and management, and integrative sciences and technology.

Tambun jadi bandar satelit moden
