I think this could be the temple a few kilometers out of silibin area...There is a secret waterfall behind the temple (a longg walk thru the jungle to get there) and if you climb to the top (after the long walk) the path is blocked by 3 tridents...We were too scared to continue walking...My grandmas friend said that it is a hindu holy place and we were not pure enough to enter or something like that...When I go back to Malaysia next month I will check it out again!

PS. I really think buildings in Ipoh need re rendering and a nice coat of paint...The building styles are very nice but they look so rundown!!

PPS. My mistake, it is not the same temple.
Also, has anyone got a picture of the Mcdonalds in the city center? They did that cuilding up soo nicely

But the Kedais look so dilapidated and are devoid of any shop signs.....I don't think they are just closed for buisiness.

13-12-2006: UEM World to complete Rawang-Ipoh project for RM766.97m
By Gan Yen Kuan
Email us your feedback at fd@bizedge.com

The Rawang-Ipoh electrified double track rail project is back on track after UEM World Bhd received government approval to undertake the project for a contract sum of RM766.97 million.

UEM World said on Dec 13 the government had accepted its offer to complete the project and a formal contract would be executed soon.

The contract would involve the construction, completion, testing, commissioning and maintenance of the railway track.

“The period of the contract is for 22 months, commencing from June 1, 2005 to March 31, 2007,” it said, adding more details of the contract would be made available upon announcement of the execution of the contract.

UEM World added it intended to novate the contract to its 57.1% subsidiary UEM Builders Bhd upon the execution of the contract.

UEM Builders’ unit, UEM Construction Sdn Bhd, had been undertaking the works for the double track rail project on an interim basis since its appointment by the government on June 1, 2005.

UEM Construction took over the multi-billion ringgit project, which was 88% completed by former main contractor DRB-Hicom Bhd.

DRB-Hicom had pulled out of the contract after being owed by the government for dues on work already done as well as RM700 million in variation orders.

UEM World and UEM Builders share prices closed two sen higher to RM1.71 and RM1.39, respectively. DRB-Hicom was unchanged at RM1.58.

Perak is to attain developed status by 2015 right? But Kedah's Vision 2010 shows that Kedah will attain developed status 5 years earlier than Perak. From what I see, Perak is far more developed than Kedah (correct me if i'm wrong) This is only my opinion, no mean to offend my friends, Kedahan. Somehow, Kedah is developing fast for the past few years especially in industrial sector, and it is possible Kedah will catch up Perak but not within these 4 years

Perak to push on with runway extension plan
Sunday December 17, 2006
TheStar

LUMUT: Perak will continue with its plans to extend the runway at the under-used Sultan Azlan Shah Airport next year.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Tajol Rosli Ghazali said the extension would allow larger aircraft like the Airbus A320 to land in Ipoh.

He said a local consultant had estimated that it would cost RM40mil to extend the runway to make it 1,981m long.

Declining to give a timeframe when the runway will be ready, Tajol Rosli said: “We have to do it quickly, and we have to acquire the land needed for it.”

Tajol Rosli said this yesterday after launching the new manufacturing facility of Impsa (M) Sdn Bhd, a leading manufacturer of ship-to-shore and rubber-tyre gantry cranes, here yesterday.

In September, it was reported that low-cost airline AirAsia was forced to suspend its popular Ipoh-Senai flights.

The airline had quoted the short runway at the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport as one of the reasons for suspending its four weekly flights.

On a related matter, Tajol Rosli said the Transport Ministry had given its approval for airlines to operate from the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport to Bangkok, Haadyai, Phuket, Jakarta and Kota Kinabalu, but not to Singapore.

This, he said, was because negotiations with the island republic were still ongoing.

Longer runway vital, so Perak to go it alone

MANJUNG: With or without federal funding, Perak will go ahead with extending the landing strip of its airport in Ipoh.

"We have asked the federal government for money, but since it’s a necessity, we’ll do it — as long as the federal government allows flights in and out of the airport," said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Tajol Rosli Ghazali.

He said the 2km airstrip would be lengthened by more than 400m to enable planes the size of an A320 Airbus to land.

The RM40 million project would entail some acquisition of private land, but is a scaled-down version of a RM151 million proposal, that included extending the terminal and shifting the fire station at the Sultan Azlan Shah airport.

He also said the airstrip’s ideal length would be 2.2km and with the other components included, would cost RM158 million.

Tajol Rosli met Transport Minister Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choy on Wednesday and obtained the ministry’s approval for flights to and from the airport, except those involving Singapore.

"We can fly from Ipoh to Bangkok, Hat Yai, Phuket, Jakarta, Labuan or Sabah," he said at the launch of Impsa Malaysia Sdn Bhd’s new manufacturing plant for ship-to-shore cranes and hydropower turbines and generators.

Tajol also said there might be a pipeline linking an oil refinery in Kedah to Kelantan, passing through Lumut and Grik. He hoped Manjung would become a hub for industries related to marine, oil and gas, and biofuels.

all this developed status thing should not be taken seriously. Penang is supposed to achieve "developed status" in 2010 also, at the same time as Kedah. I believe Penang is more than 20 years ahead of Kedah in terms of development. besides that, Penang is so much more developed than many so called "cities" all around Malaysia but it is still in municipal level. clearly, this "status" is just to satisfy certain people.

Hey, there's a high rise building under construction as seen in the picture. Who say there's no tall building in Ipoh? How tall is the building? Wat is it?..a hotel or office building?

One-stop auto centre for Ipoh
Wednesday January 31, 2007
TheStar

IPOH: Bandar Meru Raya, a new township that is being developed as Perak’s Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) hub, will soon become a centre for the motor vehicle retail trade.

Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Tajol Rosli Ghazali said a 5ha site at the township had been allocated to build Ipoh Auto City, which would bring dealers and operators in the motor vehicle business under one roof.

He said the centre located along the North-South Expressway near Jelapang here would become a major crowd puller, hence boosting economic activities.

The project between PCB Development and LS Associates Sdn Bhd would be the second in the country after a similar centre in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, he said.

Speaking after witnessing the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two companies at the Perak Techno Trade Centre here on Monday, Tajol Rosli said a car museum for vintage cars would also be built there.

The cars, belonging to royalty and VIPs, would also be available for rent on special occasions, he said.

“We hope Ipoh Auto City will become one of the must-visit stopovers for those travelling along the highway,” he added.

Tajol Rosli said other development plans in the pipeline was a “Shoes City” with the relocation of 400 shoemakers in Menglembu to the township.

“A huge food court complex selling Ipoh’s best food will also be built there,” he said.

LS Associates chairman Tan Sri Adzmi Wahab said Ipoh Auto City could accommodate dealers for all the 35 brands of cars available in the country, and it would include showroom space for second-hand cars.

Other facilities to be made available are insurance and finance services, car accessories stores, workshops, and counters for Road Transport Department and Puspakom to process the transactions.

“Once operational, one will not need to travel to different locations or be caught in traffic to check on choices and prices of car,” he said, adding that the centre would be completed in August next year.
