Yes, Nanjing was the capital of China for a period of time. It's a 京.

南京 = Nanjing (Southern Capital)
北京 = Beijing (Northern Capital)
東京 = Kaifeng, Tokyo (Eastern Capital)
西京 = Xijing (Western Capital)

In Song Dynasty, Eastern Capital 東京 is Bian Liang (东京汴梁), nowadays Kaifeng, Henan Province.

Well, Tokyo is the east capital of Japan. On that basis, the west capital of Japan is Kyoto. They shouldn't be confused with Chinese capitals.

The four directions of Chinese capitals aren't what most Chinese think what they are.

The four names only occurred simultaneously in Northern Song Dynasty, when Kaifeng was picked as 'prime capital(首都)', and three others as 'auxiliary capital(陪都)'.

Kaifeng was the East Capital (东京开封府) then.

And the three auxiliary capital then were:

South Capital Yingtian (南京应天府, aka today's Shangqiu, 商丘, in Henan province)
North Capital Daming (北京大名府, aka today's Daming, 大名(邯郸市境内), in Hebei province)
West Capital Luoyang (西京洛阳府, aka today's Luoyang, 洛阳, in Henan province)

Interestingly, at that time, there were 5 capitals in the northern Liao (辽/遼) nomad dynasty. See the whole picture below.

Yeah i agree, but Greenland Plaza looks significantly better than Trump as well. More sophisticated, modern and overall more impressive. I guess its the edges which gives people this false impression that they looks similar. Trump is flat at the roof with a long spire sticking upwards, Greenland has more of a flow to its design. BTW, Greenland is more of a triangular shape which trump isn't.

weren't the same architects working together on Trump?

Anyway, the furst tower similar to this was a Chongqing proposal from the 1990s, slated to become the world's tallest building, taking over from Petronas, but that never materialised. Anyone have any pics?

Yes, both this and Trump are Adrian Smith buildings, as is Burj Dubai. But Greenland has by far the most attractive cladding. Amazing that one architect could have three buildings like this completed in the same year -- definitely his annus mirabilis.
