Rome : Muratella-tower (30F Richard Rogers)

New mixed use complex & 30-storey office tower in Rome

La Muratella is a millennium project for the development of an area between Rome and Fiumicino Airport for which Arup has been appointed as structural engineer. The architect is Richard Rogers Partnership, based in London, and the client Lamaro Appalti, Rome.

The project comprises 9 8-storey residential buildings with commercial/retail space at ground level, a recreational facility and a 30-storey office tower. Parking facilities are provided below ground.

The office tower is the visual trademark of the project: a concrete structure connected to a steel access tower containing stairs, lifts and a service lift. In order to achieve visual connectivity to the main tower the architect idea has been to convey the image of a crane, and this is provided in the form of horizontal bars and inclined cables every three floors.

The Muratella project is designed to be a sustainable development.
