Why is the speed limit only 70 km/h? Couldn't it be at least 80?

I'm not sure if it will be only on few parts, but generally it's due to safety since projected traffic intensity it's bigger than on motorways out of city and there will be also underground interchanges which are not very safe...
And I know that biggest traffic capacity of any road is reached somewhere near 60-70 kmph so 70 kmph speed limit doesn't decrease max traffic intensity of the road, it just slow down cars going there out of peak hours in thin traffic. |

Visualisations of north-west part of Prague City Ring (total length 6 400 m of which 5 500 m go in tunnels). Completion expected in 2011.
West End is at northern portal of Strahovský tunnel and Malovanka interchange, which is u/c from 2004. East end is in Troja on the right Vltava bank. .Profiles .

Úžasný projekt a skvelé vizualizácie!

I know this outer ring isn't built yet (doh), but there's already quite some motorways/expressways around Prague. Is it difficult for the transit traffic to come through Prague (passing it by)? For example Brno - Dresden, Plzeň - Wrocław etc.

^ Wow, very nice, thanks!
I thought it would be sth like that, but since these are (all) 4-lane roads (sorta expressways?), I didn't think they would be so congested, I thought the Prague's motorways/expressways were pretty easy to bypass the city.

Will the existing 4-lane parts of the (future) R1 all be widened into 6 lanes, so the entire R1 would be a 6-lane expressway?

^ The existing 4-lanes IMHO no in the nearest future, because after completion of entire system (including inner city ring) they will be sufficient enough. However more loaded parts of R1 motorway will be built as 6-lanes. For example the part of R1 from D5 crossing to R7 crossing was built with 6 lanes already.
My photos of R1 I took near Ruzyne airport (close to R7-R1 crossing) at 2007-4-17 . .

^ Yeah, that seems more logical, firstly to build the entire ring, and then the widening, if necessary. Anyway, thanks!

Widening can get difficult inside tunnels, however.
