True, the whole Line C extension was nothing but brilliantly orchestrated camouflage of our nuclear programme. Now we can finally become a rogue state threatening the world peace.

Tovább bővült a prágai metró

A megállók száma 57.

Hungarian media info on the extension... For Hungarians...

Congrats Czech friends!

Not entirely unrealistic! My father-in-law designed Line A and his work included designing underground war shelters (I think bomb shelters, space for the government and a hospital). He also had to be in the tunnels while explosives were detonated nearby to test them. Plenty of Cold War paranoia back then, he was lucky to survive!

Does anybody know where and on which lines all of these underground shelters are located. Sure enough they are not shown on public maps of the metro!

Great pix of new extension thanks

(Fidel Castro, Asia has nobody like Patrik Kotas!)

I suppose all the old stations...these are not just shelters. They are nuclear bunkers, capable of holding many thousand people(Bp metro can hold 200000 for a few days),with air purifiers and such.
BTW,I've read somewhere that they were reconstructed here on line M2 along with the line itself. Here's a gallery if you're interested:

I don't think there are some special shelters, the shelter is metro stations and tunnels itself, there are special doors which can hermetically close the stations and tunnels. They were used during floods in 2002 but it turned out they were not very well maintained, now it should be better.
However AFAIK special shelter was built along Strahov tunnel on Prague City Ring.

They do exist on the metro but probably off the railway itself. Perhaps the democratic government doesn't want to publicise them either!

In the new extension the finish of the concrete surfaces in the tunnels etc is beautiful. In Australia these areas would have a rough finish.

Looks impressive folks! Střížkov Looks solid. Would be nice if some art was exhibited in the station..... but its too new

CHEERS!

Question -

The Extension of C line - does it lead to the Airport? or do you have to take that Special bus?

I took that bus from Nadrazi Holesovice station....
Was not bad, but like 30 minutes for every bus...

Well, no, line A will (maybe...) run to the airport someday (in 10-15 years?). The prolongation is currently being prepared (projected) for construction start. But there is, or rather was a big debate whether it's really necessary to build metro or an "ordinary" fast regio-train would be sufficient (and cheaper by hundreds of million euro ). I think that at the moment both systems are planned anyway...

The most frequent connection to the airport is currently bus no. 119 from Dejvicka (line A) metro station (every 7-8 minutes)

Strizkov rules .

I don't like the A line extension at all. Motol and Bila Hora are quite small wards necessary to have a metro. This extension makes a senseless snake-shaped line which makes the Airport-Center connection just a little bit shorter than it is by bus nowadays. Motol could be connected by trm from Vypich or Kotlarka.

Kappa21:

Option 1:
AE bus from the Airport to Nadrazi Holesovice metro C station
C metro line from Nadrazi Holesovice to Florenc

Option 2:
No. 119 bus from Airport to Dejvicka metro A station
A metro from Dejvicka to Muzeum
C metro from Muzeum to Florenc

Option 3:
No. 100 bus from Airport to Zlicin metro B station
B metro from Zlicin to Florenc
