As you guys may have read in the papers, they're going to bury Magistrala underground between IP Pavlova and the Central Station. Do you know what it's going to look like in front of the historical buildiong of the station? Is the elevated highway going to stay there?
Yes it's gonna stay there, but it's gonna be changed to boulevard (something like Avenue de Champs Elysées in Paris). Reducing of traffic lanes, more pedestrian crossings, lower speed limit, etc.

This is possible between Nuselsky most and IP Pavlova (where Magistrala is just a city street) but not in front of the Central Station where it is an elevated highway. How can it be converted in a boulvard when it stands on pillars with no pedestrian access? Doesn't make any sense.

No it's not elevated. Not in the front of Fantova building. It stays on the "new" terminal hall, so pedestrian crossing is possible there.

edit: It's clear from this picture I think...

and I even found one little visualization of the place...

If I'm not mistaken there are plans only tu bury short section behind the National Museum.
And as earthbound already wrote, in front of the main railway station building the magistrala is not elevated, it runs over the hall
see the profile

and the plan

Thank you Earthbound and Kokpit for your quick answers and the attached visualizations. The thing is, I know what it looks like now but I just cannot imagine how this strip of highway placed on the top of another builing (no urban surroundings except for Fantova building) can be converted into a city boulvard. It has no pedestrian access expect for a staircase from the parking garage underneath....

This and Champs Elisee?

The budget is CZK 10 billion which seems a lot for the short version of the tunnel, but who knows. Maybe you guys know more.

It's being modernised on speed 160 km/h, isn't it? Are there some works between Bohumín - Jablunkov as well?

Outstanding!
Great job Czechs! If only our polish authorities would be able to do such things...

Thumbs up

Well done, really impressing!
We should send our national railway (PKP) authorities to Czech Republic for some kind of education.

bromberger:

You made some good job in Poland too. When I rided Czestochowa - Warszawa, the train went about 160 km/h all the time .

tomi1975:

DBB or OBB are better option for PKP education than CD, definitely .
