Modus Tower - Wigan, Gtr Manchester
This tower has been a rumour for some time since the new major shopping centre came to the media spotlight a few years ago, today I've finally found some images of it, courtesy of the GA's website...
This will likely become Wigan's tallest building and a modern gateway for the town centre..It has approval and will probably start soon (site cleared anyway). -Images- no real stats as yet, will ammend this as I get them (I am waiting for written reply from Modus). |

It's not too bad, it isn't ugly it is just a plain modern building.
It reminds me of some of the new apartment blocks going up in Leeds. There are many that look like that from the train window as you come in or out of Leeds. |

![]() I quite like these buildings, despite being clad in terracotta, that have some aesthetic qualities, and look quite nice when coming into the train station. If anything, I'd say this Wigan tower looks like the dreadful West Point reclad. Either way, I'm not fond of this building, these kind of bland terracotta blocks have been being developed since before 2000, and have been heavily slated for a good couple of years. I can't see why developers are still proposing these types of buildings, that look like they could've been designed 6 years ago. Still, it's a good sized building for Wigan, but I can't understand why architects havn't learned their lessons from the mistakes already made in other british cities with these terracotta lumps. |

I dont think it is too bad, it does remind of some stuff in Leeds and those apartment blocks on the corner of trinity way in Salford. If this was in Manc I would give it 4 but for Wigan I give it 6. Cutting edge design wasn't expected here anyway, but I can't help feeling a little dissapointed, but it's better than nowt.

If it was filler in a city like Leeds or Manc we wouldnt care, the fact its the first tower in Wigan is very bad news, as someone said it will cloud peoples perceptions of highrise in Wigan for years to come.

i think its a fair attempt as a starter for wigan. it is quite bland but its also inoffensive so i dont think it will sour peoples perceptions. it could never be seen as monumental for a large city. but as wigan is basically a suburb of manchester i really dont see this as being too bad. im gonna give it a 6
