The Chit Chat Thread (Part 1)
I've heard a rumour on one of the kuwaiti blogs that Al Shaya group will remove all their shops in Souq Sharq and instead open them in The 5th Avenue Mall. Would anyone now if that's true or not ? And is the 5th Avenue mall the same project as The Avenue Mall project or is it something else ?

Although I have yet to hear this rumour, it may very well be true. The Al-Shaya group had recently purchased a controlling stake in the Mabanee group (owners of the Avenues Mall). Also, the entire board of Mabanee group resigned sometime in November I think.

I have heard similar rumors, and although al shaya group bought a controlling stake, i doubt they will close all thier shops at sharq mall, its not a good strategy, comparing this with how they are expnading in dubai

Continuing with this topic, the latest "rumor" is that Boots (the new pharmacy chain Al-Shaya has recently secured) will be opening a location in Souk Sharq. If this is true, it would appear that the Al-Shaya group is actually investing more in the Souk Sharq mall.

I'm glad to hear that as it is more logical for a company to expand their business rather than diminsh it. Moreover Alshaya owns something like 70% of the shops in Souq sharq so closing them would be bad for business for Souq Sharq in general.

Well what we're talking about here ,Souq Sharq, is a mall and not a traditional open market. From what I remember I think that the one in Kuwait is as big as the one in Dubai

Does anyone know what is this design for ?
![]() It says that is a themed shopping mall designed by Rand Soellner while on site in Kuwait. It might be called Oasis Mall

You may be right Alonsi. The "wave" look definitely reminds me of the current Avenues Mall.
But the upcoming mall in the new Sahara Golf Club may also be a possibility (the name Sahara is related to Oasis). I heard that this new mall at the Sahara will be quiet large, about the same size as Fanar. I'll look into it and let you know if and when I get any info. |

that is a great idea Ikarus_q8 , i was thinking of such a tread long time ago
but sense you guys do not participate that much (ex Dubliner&Ikarus_q8 ), then there was no point of making it in the first place.
