in other words; stadium, shopping complex, and UCSF, at Candlestick Point, perhaps extending into Hunters Point? Wouldn't that do wonders to one of the most economically depressed portions of SF. Wouldn't that be a great counterpart to SF State & Parkmerced and Stonestown cross town? |

49ers wouldn't do that. It would probably include residential buildings not a university. Plus UCSF just expanded in Mission Bay.

Why thank you. I take pride in my alma mater. Anyways, have any of you heard rumors of a proposed UC Chula Vista? I've heard it thrown around here in my hometown... |

UCSD is too! ^_^
Anyways, it will be a while before they even consider a new UC.... Chula Vista is more suitable for a CSU |

I also heard they were going to convert Southwestern College, the CC here in Chula Vista, into a CSU.

I read that they might build a school that offers different types of degrees accredited by various systems. Yet, a CSU option seems realistic. I mean, there is a CSU San Marcos, and Chula Vista/South Bay is bigger.

UC sees record number of freshman applications
By Matt Krupnick CONTRA COSTA TIMES BERKELEY - The University of California has received more undergraduate applications than ever for next fall, but community college transfer applications dropped at nearly every campus. According to preliminary data released Tuesday by the university, nearly 107,000 students applied for admission to the nine undergraduate UC campuses, an increase of 6.6 percent over 2005. Driving the increase was an 8.8 percent rise in the number of applicants applying to be freshmen, with nearly 83,000 such applications this year. The rise in freshman applications was expected to outpace the increase in high school graduates, meaning that a greater percentage of high school seniors are doing well enough in school to apply for UC admission, said Sue Wilbur, the university's undergraduate-admissions director. "This is good news for the university ... but it's also good news for the state," she said. "Some good things are happening in California schools, and we should all be celebrating that." But transfer applications were down at every UC campus except Berkeley, which saw a 1.4 percent increase. The drop, which Wilbur called "troubling," comes two years after California's 109 community colleges experienced a decline in enrollment, in part because of budget cuts that eliminated classes. Freshman applications in all ethnic groups improved over 2005, including an 11.5 percent increase in applications from black students and 11 percent more Latino applicants. The Berkeley campus attracted a 19 percent increase in both ethnic groups. "This year I doubled our outreach efforts across the board," said Walter Robinson, UC Berkeley's director of undergraduate admissions. "I think those numbers reflect those efforts." Campuses will let students know in late March whether they have been admitted. University officials said they expect to admit about 68,500 applicants, or 5,000 more than last year. |
