My photoshoot at LCK

Did my photoshoot at Lim Chu Kang not too long ago. Used the old runway and very rural living deep inside the greenary...

I'm totally floored by your pictures

btw is that last pic Lim Chu Kang Road? It actually is very pretty the way it is, as its not the standard LTA type of road. Hopefully it can remain this way for a long time. I heard that future park connector will link up to this area too

Thanks, Lifestyle, for reminding us that Singapore still has some beautiful greenary.

Thanks RC. The road name is Old Lim Chu Kang Road (surrounded by restricted area)...it's on the right side coming from Lim Chu Kang Road.

SonofaDude, yes it's really lovely with all the greenary & tall trees. Exploring deaper into the greenary reveal very interesting & relaxing lifestyle.... Nice to get away from the usual hustle bustle city lifestyle.

I see..it is lovely with the trees on both sides. I have not been to the D'Kranji Farm Resort, but the site was developed with the intention of providing just that kind of a relaxing getaway or corporate retreat. Did you see it?

Visit local farms, win prizes

30 Jul 09

IN A bid to get more Singaporeans and tourists to 'go local', 14 local farms are offering fun activities and prizes for visitors next month.

About 15,000 passports, or Farmpasses, will be distributed - at the farms, schools and tourist visitor centres - throughout August.

Every weekend, all the farms will be holding activities ranging from pottery- making and charity flea markets to sampling of frog's legs and discounts on farm fresh eggs.

The farms in Kranji range from fisheries and vegetable farms to goat and crocodile farms.

Armed with a Farmpass, visitors stop by at each farm to collect a stamp. Once seven stamps are collected, they can participate in a lucky dip to claim a prize. Collect another seven stamps to receive another prize.

Lucky dip prizes include Pandan plants, soft toys, $50 food hampers and a night's stay at D-Kranji Resort, a local farmstay.

More than $60,000 in prizes are up for grabs for those who visit the participating farms.

This is part of The Kranji Countryside Association's efforts to steer more people to Singapore's cluster of farms, including Jurong Frog Farm, vegetable farm Kok Fah Technology Farm and Qian Hu Fish Farm.

Food production in Singapore is currently less than 5 per cent of total demand, but the association aims to increase this.

Some news on a new farming concept.

First commercial vertical farm opens in Singapore

SINGAPORE: Singapore now has its first commercial vertical farm, which means more local options for vegetables.

The technique uses aluminium towers that are as tall as nine metres, and vegetables are grown in troughs at multiple levels.

The technique utilises space better -- an advantage for land-scarce Singapore.

Skygreens farm first started working on the prototype in 2009, and has opened a 3.65-hectare farm in Lim Chu Kang.

It produces three types of vegetables which are currently available only at FairPrice Finest supermarkets.

"We are always looking at ways to increase our sources of food supply and if we can produce some in Singapore, then that can go some way to meet local demand," said Mr Lee Yi Shyan, Senior Minister of State for National Development and Trade and Industry.

The farm currently has 120 vertical towers, and hopes to increase the number to 300 by next year.

This will increase its current daily supply of vegetables from 0.5 tonnes to two tonnes by 2013.
