Ah, another topic about this great tower! I realy like this original concept, except of the lower part. The 'feets' of the tower are way to big in my opinion.

I think it's actually too short for the size of the foot of the building, the proportions aren't right. It should be 350meters high!

Ah well, yo˙'re right... but 350m? shall we make a compromis? What about 301,93m?

I kind of like it. You shouldn't see this as the final design... it's only an idea. And... if the idea is to build a original looking tower, i'm fine with that. Just wait for 'real' renders, and then give an opinion.

But I honestly think this idea is brought up to get a highrise discussion going in the Netherlands, wich is a good thing!

I think it's quite ugly, to tell you the truth.

It looks like a giant stubbed out cigarette.

Are Phillp Morris the major tenants? Department of Health perhaps?

it looks like someone was a bit illustrious with autocad and thought that it'd look nice in real life. not sure if it'll make the transition to rendering to reality very well..

I can't take it seriously, neither the plan, nor the design...

Belle van Zuylen was a novelist who lived from 1740 until 1804. Belle played an important role as she was among the first to talk of equal rights for women.

The Goddes of The Netherlands

Can't think of an easy way to explain how to pronounce her name. "Belle" is French obviously, "van" ("a" as in "car" but shorter) is Dutch for "from" or "of" often followed by the name of a town or village (Zuilen, as it is now being written, is part of the city of Utrecht).

"Zuylen" is the difficult part to pronounce. "uy" is the old version of "ui". However, this vocal sound is practically unique. I never heard it in any other language before anyway. From Wikipedia:
Quote:
Pronunciation can be a challenge as many of the Dutch vowel sounds are difficult for non native speakers. Diphthongs such as the "ui" sound in such words as "huis" (house) and "muis" (mouse), the "eu" in sleutel (key), and the "ij" sound in words like "fijn" (fine) or "wijn" (wine) present difficulties and even though some of these words are superficially like their English equivalents the correct sound is very different.
Just found this on Wikipedia:
Quote:
ui is /ʌy/ needs to be learned by ear, it is a bit like in French l'oeil

cool,

Utrecht is my favorite city in Holland. Amsterdam is too weird, Rotterdam too uptight, the Hague too royal. Utrecht always struck me as the Chicago of Holland, the country's real hometown.

Not sure how I feel about the design, especially considering its potential to overwhelm the city.....BUT......as a big fan of Utrecht, I'm all in favor of it stealing some thunder from its better known cousins.....

There will be deffinitly a 200m+ tower in Utrecht in the future. However, the question still is 'how will it look'? Probably it will be the 'Belle van Zuylen'...

Hey it's unique and if you think about it, if you were driving towards it or looking at it from a distance you would think "Wow!"

I like it.
