Nice, though the garden sheds are a bit small

I love Urban Splash projects like that, they're so innovative other develpopers should take notes from them

Whatever else you might think of the redevelopment of Park Hill, at least it makes these flats more welcoming and less Stalinist in appearance. However, the design must have been good as they have outlived the horrors that used to stand behind them.

Read on Sheffield forum an article interviewing Urban Splash that something around 40-45 had been sold of which around 19 were to private buyers and 24 or so to housing associations.

Anything which breathes new life into Park Hill has to be good. If it moves on from being a desert of poverty and crime, then good. It does prove that if looked after correctly and there is a bigger mix of residents, these places can work.

There is an interesting e book by a punk musician who lived in Kelvin, Hyde Park and Park Hill in the eighties and nineties. For all outsiders loathed and feared these estates, he said the Kelvin Flats had a good community spirit and there wasn't that much crime.

I do remember a taxi on City Rd having a near miss with a 26 inch black and white television in the eighties. I suppose the lift was broken and they couldn't be bothered to heft the old Bush down the stairs, so the window was easier.
Actually Park Hill features briefly in Threads, where the timber yard is besieged by people wanting wood to build nuclear shelters.

This is what the paper said, but they might have got it wrong, and my memory is fading with old age, but a taxi definitely had a near miss with a television at Hyde Park.

Article in Saturday Telegraph magazine on the Flats. I thought it was fairly even handed. The pictures mainly seemed to try an capture the whole building from a distance, so did not get a real impression of impact of redevelopment.

i did not realise they had sold so few flats as of yet.

Amazing. How many commerical units are proposed for the inner sections of the redeveloped Park Hill?
