Indeed, fabulous idea!

Was in the Punchbowl u in Crookes yesterday, which has some fabulous views. It struck me just how flat the east end is (especially in relation to the rest of the city). Generating a second "centre" around Valley Centertainment could be fantastic.

The Telegraph had an article on this proposed office refurb on Arundal Gate, opposite TJ Hughes, that was approved recently. Work is due to start any moment and should be finished by November this year.
That whole stretch of road, in between the old Roxy and Fitzalan Square is in desperate need for some refurb work so great to see this one get off the ground.

I think most of the buildings facing arundel gate need knocking down. Especially those annoying one story one's with the pointy roofs.

Offices for upgrade

BANNER, the Sheffield based construction and facilities management company group is to carry out the £3.4 million total refurbishment of offices at 1-11 Arundel Gate.
The project, designed by FJ Architects, on behalf of Steenberg Property, also involves adding two new storeys, extending the existing floor plan, and converting the building’s lower ground floor area into underground parking, with the addition of access, ventilation and lighting.

Banner’s operations director, Kevin Barclay, said: “Arundel Gate has become a favourite area for developers in Sheffield and schemes like this one at 1-11 Arundel Gate, will help the area’s prestige as a commercial district to grow. This project will turn a tired office block into “grade A” commercial space.”

Banner will remove and replace the lift systems, install new windows throughout and erect new external cladding as part of the upgrade.
I guess that's the building above. It's good that he say's arundel gate has become a favorite area for developers, as some of the buildings could really do with being refurbished/replaced.

If it's the building that I'm thinking of then it has an Ethiopian cafe and a rock bar as some of it's tenants.

Don't want to overload you with stuff, but Andrew, while your at it, a few more for you to add to the first post:

Velocity Tower -
http://www.skyscrapernews.com/buildings.php?id=5107. No design yet, but it is rumoured to be inspired by the Citadel from Half Life 2. 30 floors, 91m Estimated.
New Chesham House -
http://www.skyscrapernews.com/buildings.php?id=5153. 24 floors, 70m.
St. Pauls Place -
No. 3 - http://www.skyscrapernews.com/buildings.php?id=4667. 13 floors, 59m.
Car Park - http://www.skyscrapernews.com/buildings.php?id=4590. 41m.
No. 2 - http://www.skyscrapernews.com/buildings.php?id=4592. 8 floors, 35m
Citygate S1 -
http://www.skyscrapernews.com/buildings.php?id=4894. 14 floors, 45m.
Some others that should come along in the future are the Boutique Hotel and Gateway Towers which are part of the West Bar development, the residential tower which is part of the NRQ and the Moorfoot tower which is part of the Moor redevelopment.

And a few updates:
Weston Tower new renders - http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=331953
Metier new photos - http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=370767
New V1 images - http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=310571
And Impact and The Chimes can probably both be removed from the page.

Have fun!!!

On another note, the amount of updating needed shows how much Sheffield has progressed.

EGADS, I completely forgot about the new tower in that Moor Block. Will sort that out tomorrow.

As for the rest, I do mean to study the pages of SkyscraperNews Uk - its where most of the existing stuff on this thread comes from anyway!

I like the look of this. It will certainly smarten up the area. The enire top of Arundel Gate, from the Crucible to Castle Square, currently seems half-derelict on both sides. The Mulberry, the Roxy and other offices and retail space are standing empty.

By the way, should we refer to it as ONE LEVEN or ON ELEVEN? :-)

Cant find the thread/pictures but I think they are putting boards up around the site of the apartment complex at the bottom of netherthorpe road, opposite HSBC on the ring road just up from the kelham island developments.

I assume they will be clearing the site over the coming months, quite a large development as I remember.

I thought that they were just refurbishing carphone warehouse, as they only just bought the new unit next door a month or so ago, but I could be wrong.
