This sounds better each time we get news about it. I think this development is pretty unique. The only thing I can think of that kind of compares is Brindley Place in Birmingham, but this is miles better (although smaller).
If they can get lot's of non-chain places it'll be excellent. |

Walked past this morning and they have the whole pavement on the Leopold Street side dug up. They are also burning off the road markings. From the painted guides on the road it looks like it is going to include a lay-by kind of arrangement I guess for either parking or dropping off etc.
Whilst most welcome in car hating Sheffield, will the development not have a car park of any kind? |

I dont think it does. Not cause of car-hateing, but there's just no space for it.Plus there's about 4/5 car parks in the planning. |

I do think Sheffield needs some more safe late night car parks.
These are generally the NCP ones to be honest, but out of all the NCP car parks in the city centre, only one (Arundel Gate) is open past 10pm (they ar eopen 24 hours). With so many restaurants, bars and attractions opening, it would make sense if more were open into the early hours to give people access to safe parking. I can understand about there being no space there though. It would be nice to hav ethe small surface car park to the rear of the City Hall (next to the NUM building) "tarted" up a bit and made mor inviting and secure. It would be ideal for that area. |

But it's no-where near finished yet is it? Maybe it's just something for access?

Could City Hall carpark be made multi-storey as part of NUM redevelopment plans? That was bars/restaurants wasn't it?

Walked past this morning, the boards are still up on West Street, but the ads are gone and it's just plain boards. They have also dug up the entire pavement and part of the road on Leopold Street. Still looks like it is months away from finishing though.
A MSCP next to the NUM building would be ideal. The business it would get from the City Hall and all these new developments woul dbe very high I would imagine. I go to the City Hall every few months for one event or another, and because of the lack of late-night secure parking use Arudnel Gate. It never feels safe walking back from the City Hall to Arundel Gate after an event. A car park bang next door would be superb for a number of reasons. |

There is a NCP car park down near Campo Lane and the Chimes, it shuts about 10-11 though!
The current car park to be turned in to a multi storey would do great busines i think. There is always events at city and with the new developments anyway it would make business. |

EDIT: And even if Hartsheat Square were open later, I would feel even less safe walking there than Arundel Gate. |

There is a small bit of Multi-Story car park in the proposed building, but I don't know if it would be open to the public, or just for workers in the buildings.

West Street side has certainly had the ad boards took down. You can now see right into the building/site.
I really should carry a camera with me, as the one on my phone is rubbish! I notice that they are using the same sandstone(type) stuff to clad the bottom as seems to be used a lot around Sheffield Centre. |

I don't think I've ever seen that hoarding before. I really like the fountain. Sheffield's really going for it on water-features! Just a shame they don't keep the ones at Barker's Pool working properly...

dont think it can be a drop off layby by the restaurant - cos only buses and trams are allowed up there...
