Bern's stadium is boring - but the performances of the teams make up for it.

You are funny, except of Ernst-Happel stadium in Vienna the other ones were build up in the last 2 to 7 years, if you call that old, I don`t what to say. And regarding Euro 2004, thats just to some degree true, Portugal had two 50`000 stadiums and da Luz with around 65`000 places, the other 7 stadiums had also just 30`000. SUI - AUT has one 53`000, one 42`000 and six 30`000 stadiums.
And if you compare the spectator amounts in summary from 2004 and 2008 they are quite similar, a little bit more than 1 Mio. The reason is, that the stadiums in Portugal were not all sold out.

Ya, know im really suprised by how the atmosphere comes across on the tv, for such "cosy" grounds the atmos is awesome , better than some of euro 2004 and all of world cup 06. Especially last nights Dutch game

Why does the FIFA and the UEFA impose different restrictions?
The UEFA guidlines work out fine during the Euro so why shouldnt they work in a wc?

i dont understand why so many people dislike the stadiums in austria + switzerland i like them personally.
i admit that they aren't the most lavish or big but i think to many people forget that these stadiums have to be used after the championships and most of them would plain and simply have been to big for the clubs who are playing in them if they were 40-50,000. these stadiums do everything asked of them and they have helped to modernise the football scene in austria and switzerland

Isn't it 8/10 for the world Cup just as 6,5/7 is for the Elite?

What I dislike about the Euro-2008 stadiums that they are a bit too small. But no one can seriously expect the Swiss and Austrian league to have stadiums comparable to i.e. Portugal or Germany for that matter.

What I do like about the stadiums is that most of them have a very good atmosphere. I especially like the atmosphere in Basel, Bern and Vienna. The last being an athletics stadium, but they have extended the first tier partly on the athletics track which gives it a much better atmosphere.

Compared to Euro-2004 I can remember that some stadiums, though new, had a lousy atmosphere. On the other hand, the two stadiums in Lisbon (Da Luz and Jose Arvelade) and the Dragao Stadium in Porto, are superb stadiums in my opinion which outclass any of the Euro-2008 stadiums. But that is no shame because these stadiums belong to the very best in Europe in my opinion.

BTW, Allianz is 6m and 7,5m (main stand is 9m) nad it was a WC 2006 venue

But looking at new projects, many architects used 8,5m and 10m.

Thats one of the reason why i love our Aslantepe more.
Its 6,2 and 8,2m and just 20cm above the pitch

Actually, the average attendance in Portugal's and Switzerland's First Division is exactly the same: 11'000.

In Portugal, though, the difference between the big and the small clubs is much wider. There are the "big 3" Porto, Benfica, Sporting with av. attendances between 30'-40'000, but there are also seven teams in the First Division with av. attendance between 1'000 - 3'000.

Portugal has only 5 teams with more than 7'000 average attendance. In Switzerland, the majority of teams is somewhere in the area of 10'000, with two teams reaching 20'000 and some with 5'000 at the lower end.

The Swiss league has only 10 teams, the Portugese 16. Offcourse the Swiss average is going to be relatively higher.

When FIFA says 8.5m/10m is best though being short of it, say 6m/7.5m is also acceptable, 8.5m/10m is not just a recommendation. It's almost compulsory regulation to candidates for WC hosting.

Strange comparison with no meaning, or otherwise I would say as also strange counter-argument without lot of meaning that Portugal has more than 10 Mio. citizen and Switzerland just around 7 Mio ?!?
