He can work on his guard all he wants, but we've seen recently that all it takes is one good punch and he goes down. That isn't something a trainer can fix and it's pretty hard to go for world titles when you have a weakness like that. Khan will stay around but I don't see him going for world titles any time soon, and when he does he'll lose.

Ali was blown away by Henry cooper and only by luck he got back and won the fight, Khan didn't have that luck.
This does not mean Cooper is better than Ali who is known as the greatest! Khan can still come back and become world champion whether its 12 or 36 months, who knows, but only idiots write off boxers. Maybe they havn't been punched before by anyone apart from their wifes!

Here's one for AndrewC
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/7625034.stm Thaxton powers to European title Jon Thaxton is the new European lightweight champion after a third-round knockout against Spanish opponent Juan Carlos Diaz Melero. ![]() The 34-year-old, a professional since 1992 claimed his 34th victory from 42 fights with a powerful blow to instantly floor the experienced Melero. Thaxton, who won in front of his home crowd in Norwich, said: "I am so proud and people know I put up a great fight. "I'm an exciting fighter - after giving up the British title I had to win." Melero, 32, who had previously held the European title, was out-punched by the energetic Thaxton in what was arguably the British fighter's last chance at seeking a world title bout. Southpaw Thaxton's highly impressive victory atones for the disappointment of losing to Yuri Romanov for the same title in April. Melero felt the force of some good punches in a first round which finished with the Spaniard already cut above the right eye. And there was to be no let up from Thaxton, whose swift right hook in the third came from nowhere to put a dramatic end to a short contest at the Norfolk Showground. "The last time I competed for this title I was so disappointed," added Thaxton. "You don't get many second chances in life and I've always had ambitions of becoming a world champion. "I don't always win but I know I am capable of putting up a great fight." In the evening's earlier bouts, Herbie Hide stopped Latvian Aleksejs Kosobokovs in the third round of their cruiserweight bout, while Danny McIntosh beat Steve Spartacus for the vacant English light heavyweight title. |

Hatton is going to have to step up to welterweight again to fight De la Hoya where he seems to strungle at that weight like against Luis Collazo and Floyd Mayweather Jr.
I think he will strungle in the later rounds but who knows he thought great in his last fight and Oscar is knocking on a bit. Ther could be two more British world champions this weekend. Undefeated Super middleweight Carl Froch from Nottingham will be fighting Jean Pascal for the WBC super middleweight title while Welsh boxer Enzo Maccarinelli fights Francisco Alvarez for the WBO cruiserweight title. Carl Froch Last edited by clarky; December 5th, 2008 at 01:01 AM. |
