Quote djurob: the section Ohrid-Resen is in poor condition and it should be repaved. The Resen-Bitola road is great....

When was the last time you drove through this road djurob?? When i was in Macedonia a year and a half ago, the resen-ohrid road was in its final stages of re-pavement and reconstruction.

Another winter tourist center to be upgraded. Several companies including a Swedish one are interested to invest in the Ponikva winter center in eastern MAcedonia by the town of Kocani. The text doesn't give too many details except that free construction parcels will be auctioned to potential investors on 30-31 January.

I was told the greeks were financing the re-pavement of the resen-ohrid road coz of the olympics. Anyways the only place that the road wasnt reconstructed (when i drove through it) was the part that goes through the centre of Resen (most of that road through the town of resen is made of rocks!)... but it was re-paved from the end of resen until the middle of Ohrid city.

very close to the steel bridge that's crossing Vardar to go to Saraj and Matka. Right where Tetovo-Skopje highway ends. They started to build the junction there they are going pretty fast. I pass there at least 3-4 times a week so I'll get the pictures... They are currently making a new bridge over Vardar which will continue as an overpass over the current highway... Than it circles through Volkovo, Stajkovci, I think it passes somewhere between Shuto Orizari, Cair and Butel.... and it ends at the big junction at the east exist of the city where the roads divides for Serbia, Greece, Airport etc.... They are also making a new overpass there...

yeah they work a lot in Albania and they also work a lot in Ukraine. Among the others are Bulgaria, Croatia, Russia and Germany (but they are not the main constructor everywhere).

But out of all Macedonian giants in construction industry only Granit made a succesfull transition to capitalism... the others have a lot of problems...

djurob, so i take it that when skopje ring highway is finished, that ugly fukd up little road which currently circles northern skopje (full of gypsie baracks) will be history??

Alboboy11 that pic is about halfway between Skopje and Tetovo. Very mountanious part of Macedonia.

well, if you refer to what we call "plasticarska ulica", that road will still be there, only it won't be used for transit traffic. The ring road passes about 3km north of that road.

but there is another good news about that street. The new US embassy should be constructed very near to that place. As the Americans will built a huge modern complex on an area of a couple of football fields, it will completely change the situation in that area. Price of square meter is already rising there as it is expected to be the next big thing in Skopje. Also the new mayor of Cair (Idzet Memeti is the name I think) has been cleaning up the area of illigal constructions. A month ago he demolished a couple of objects... So perhaps that area is expected to change very quickly in the coming years...
