Gevgelija is becoming more and more attractive for Greek tourists. Everyday up to 2000 Greeks are flocking to Gevgelija (which is a small town of around 30.000 people) either for shopping or for leisure in the hotels and casinos. Two luxtury hotels alrady operate in Gevgelija, one is the old hotel Jugo which has been reconstructed and recategorized, and since last year there is hotel Flamingo which is a Dutch investment. For this year it is almost certain that another hotel and casino will pop up. The investor is the hotel chain Princess. Another projects which are pening this year are new thermas which will be a Slovenian investment by Terme Olimpija and an old peoples village which will be a domestic investment by a Skopje based company Begramo. here is an older article from when the Flamingo hotel was opened. It says that among the planned investments for the future are golf courses, trim tracks, horseback riding courses, aqua park etc.....

oh, and another thing. The new ski center KOZUV that I already posted info for is very close to Gevgelija. This year the new road will be constructed leading directly from Gevgelija to the ski resort and it should be only about 25km long. Also Dojran lake is very close some 30-40km. Dojran is the third largest lake in Macedonia and it is already an established tourist destination mostely for Macedonians and Greeks. So we are talking about a new context for that whole region which was mostely considered as an transit area in the past.

![]() well, yeah but you can outrun most of the trains lakerdar. I think Skopje-Bitola takes 4-4.5 hours with train. With car it's around 2 hours maybe less.

But then again, a train ticket from Tirana to Durres costs a US$ value of 40 cents. You can't expect the train conditions to improve with those kind of prices. Pretty much trains are mainly used by the villagers who need to get out in one of the stations in between the two cities. |
