This is a bit old news, like 2 weeks but I think it is worth of posting in this thread. The Slovenian Telecom bough 76% (worth 4.7 milion EUR) of the Macedonian internet provider On Net. On Net is only 5 years old and covers around 30% of the Macedonian internet providing market. However the company has made some moves in the past year to enter the fixed telephony. The Slovenian Telecom is seen as a strategic investor in order to expand On Net in the fixes telephony sector. On Net already offers long distance calls, but it should start to offer local calls as well in very near future.

The Skopje refinery OKTA started to re-brand its gas stations with the Greek brand EKO. The total investment should be around 1 million EUR. About 20 gas stations should be expanded and rebranded with the first five already being under reconstruction and will be finished this month. OKTA is getting ready for tuffer compatition as Russian LUKOIL already entered the market and the Austrian OMV has announced its interest to enter the market as well...

Isn't that a bit too much land to build some golf course in Macedonia?? Anyway is golf something popular in Macedonia than any usual person would do?
I think it's a bit boring lol |

![]() it's boring but it brings in cash... hope they go with this project... I think that Gevgelija region is pretty good for golf courses too... With all the new casinos there and with the ski center Kozuf (which should more upscale than other MK ski resorts), the Dojran lake.... the golf courses could fit in perfectly... And Thesaloniki only 60km away... plus the weather is always nice there unlike Skopje where it is shitty for at least 4-5 months per year....

Why don't they go to the Gevgelija region?? I think it would be perfect then.
The golf course might be good for Ohrid's tourism, but i don't wanna see part of it's natural beauty torn down, something that vast shouldn't be built around a historical city. Gevgelija always has some rich Greek business type people...the golf course would be better suited there, and good for the over all region. |

@lakerdar I uplodaded a shitload of stuff these days so I can chill out for a while....
Anyway here is my contribution for today... Gevgelija region is definately becoming a hotspot in the country. The Greeks leave a couple of milion of euros daily in the casinos on the Macedonian-Greek border by Gevgelija and Dojran. Most of the guests are from Thesaloniki, Kilkis and Polykastro but sometimes even from Athens. Greek enjoy the privacy and the tratement they are given in the casions as whole VIP sections and clubs are opened where privacy is guaranteed and the people can relax. The state also gains a lot from this business. A licence to have a casino is 400k EUR per year + regular taxes. Quote:

It means Macedonia is the worst in the entire region of the 'Western Balkans' to do with trade and stuff, coz our government told us last year that Macedonia was going to experience an economic 'boom' but i think they pointed the catapult into the ground.

Country Index Population Albania 377 (3.5) Bosnia 602 (4.5) Bulgaria 951 (7.5) Croatia 2305 (4.5) Macedonia 670 (2.0) Moldova 177 (4.5) Romania 990 (22) Serbia 562 (8.8) (Kosovo excluded) So really other than Croatia no other country has something to be proud off... Anyway the trend is not good for Macedonia, and the main reason for this is that we've had one of the lowest FDI rates in the region in the past 15 years. Also the structure of the investments has to be taken in considerations... There were very few greenfield investments in MK. Also large portion of the investments was in the service sector and the infrastructure. Very few investments were aimed at export oriented industries and businesses. I think things will change in a good way as the structure of investments has started to change this year (some very coll investments have been announced but we will have to wait and see what happens).....

true, but croatia has always been ahead, it always been slovenia and croatia that are granted success above Balkan nations. But they have major advantages with the ocean and Slovenia with close ties with EU and Austria.
I'm suprised Bosnia is even up there, and Serbia should have less as well. It proves they are not lagging too much, and I doubt Macedonia is either, but you guys know better

A Hungarian plane company 'Viz Air' is interested in beginning flights from London to Skopje and the other way around, from September, and the price for one way is expected to be around 40 euros!
