Any chance anyone's going to the site this weekend. Would be good to see if anythings happened with the 3 wings that had appeared to have stopped growing in the last few weeks. Might have even grown 2 floors since last time?
I remember somebody mentioned it's about 1 floor a week. It better speed up soon otherwise the 150? floor core will take 3 years to build!! - and the buildings supposed to be completed in less time than that - end of Dec 2008 right?

Are any of our other regular photographers in Dubai. Thanks in advance from the rest of us hoping for an update
I imagine the carpark structure will be nearly finished and those thick columns on the edges of the wings might have grown. The floorplates (I'm guessing as the concrete for those is thinner they harden quicker) will have risen two floors too.

Dubai was featured in an article in the "Economist" for March 4-10th. They list the height as 800m. I'm only reporting what they said, so the first person to raise the height debate deserves a swift kick to the groin. They also note that oil accounts for less than 7% of GDP... for all those ignorant prowlers who won't care.

I wouldn't call the Freedom Tower a competitor, we Yanks concede the height edge

Let me assure you that noone likes that tower anyway. If you ask 100 people what should be done with that land, 99 will say rebuild the twin towers exactly as they were. The Freedom Tower is hideous.

It would be nice if we could get some close-ups of the construction.

What is with the update drought!!!!????!!!! Most of us here have been spoiled by the great efforts of some forumers...but I guess the greater the anticipation, the greater the pleasure. Hopefully it has grown quite a bit since the last update.

I don't know what it is but to be honest most of the updates in this thread look the same to me. Maybe it's good to have an update drought.

I'm also looking forward to going to that club on levels 144-146 in Burj Dubai.

Of particular interest at the moment in looking at the core construction is to detect when the first setback and reconfiguration of the formwoerk will occur. This will give an indication of the tapering profile of the construction assuming an asthetic that broadly sticks to the drawings an and possibly point (or not) to a taller end point than has been guesstimated. I think this next update should show a setback or at least the start of formwork reconfiguration if they are sticking to the 705 meter end point. Hence the vague excitment for forumers.

From the BIG THREE CONSTRUCTION DIAGRAM (BD, SWFC and US7), it is quite clear that SWFC and US7 are designed to be profitable buildings, as well as architecturally good looking. BD is very impressive in height but the upper floors are so small in plan that the building is unlikely to make a profit.

The thing is though, the burj dubai complex consists of much more than just this tower. While the burj itsself won't make a profit it'll add value and prestige to the whole development.

BTW here's a little something I made. These consist the towers that are only near burj dubai so it doesn't count the marina towers, etc.
