Thanks smussuw for sharing such an awesome update! This year Burj the beast will hopefully defeat all the last opponents, the jealous ones that don't wanna admit the biggest tower of the world won't comes to their hometown Burj will be at least 320m at the end of the year!

great updates, it sounds boring already but some of those pictures are very impressive.

and the outer wings are really huge, this is hell of a tower..

BTW What is the building to the far left with the bluish triangles still under construction in the pic that I quoted you above? Do you or does anyone else know?

it is 280m Bright Start tower.

If you're ever in serious trouble for space I've got some ftp space that's free where i could put pictures to be hosted. Thanks from all of us for the work on getting the pics.
I think they seem to be busy working on the floor plates. As I expected they're rising quicker than the building itself (the concrete is thinner I guess so I suppose it sets a lot quicker and therefore is strong enough to hold weight a lot sooner making the floor-to-floor height less). Has the rest of the building grown? It doesn't appear to be much taller than before? Maybe a floor on the core?
I'm also curious why all the outer wings appear to have stopped? Surely as the setback spirals round (ie. 16, 24, 32, etc) then only one wing would need to stop "if" the progress has to stop for the setback. Otherwise 2 of the wings would have grown a few floors more than the 3rd.
Hmmm maybe as the central core will be the only bit that will rise to the 150? stories that they only need to rush that bit and can take their time over these wing cores - and that's why the middle core has shot ahead in the last few months.
Anywayz great work on the pics.
ps. yes, i'm aware that the building will only be fractionally wider than the "wing cores".
pps. this buildings going to look as thin as that rocket shaped hotel that's shooting up in the centre of Dubai (that one near Chelsea) - forget it's name...

it is 333m rose rotana suites, but believe me, the rose rotana is way thinner

my theory, following the progress of the past half a year, they r focussing on the inner core for one month, then the outer wings for another month and so on, this is why the difference occurs.

CN Tower designer amazed his creation hasn't been topped
Last updated Mar 14 2006 04:06 PM EST
CBC News

The man who co-designed the CN Tower says it astonishes him no other building has surpassed his creation in the 30 years since it was built. Ned Baldwin was speaking on word Tuesday that Tokyo broadcasting interests had announced their intention to build a tower in that city that would be about 47 metres higher than Toronto's world-renowned, 553-metre landmark. The Japanese structure, which Baldwin himself consulted on a few years back, is scheduled for completion in 2011. It's the second time such a project has been announced in Tokyo. Last year, construction began on a building in Dubai, UAE, whose owners said would rise to over 700 metres of combined office and condo use, but work there seems to have slowed down. Wherever it might happen, somebody is going to eventually pull it off, Baldwin said. "It's way overdue. It's outrageous it hasn't [already happened]," Baldwin told CBC Online News, from a golf course in Myrtle Beach, S.C. "[The CN Tower owners] are so lucky this thing hasn't been surpassed and they can keep calling it the tallest tower. "It's incredible." Baldwin says there was a time when he thought nothing would ever surpass the CN Tower, completed in 1976 on Toronto's waterfront, "because it was such a unique set of circumstances that allowed it to built that high." The appearance of High Definition television (HDTV) looked like it might be a spur to high tower growth, but that is now up in the air, Baldwin said, because some formats and variations no longer require a tall structure. Besides, Baldwin said he has changed his whole approach to buildings. "I no longer think a tall tower is a good tourist attraction. What you need is something that is a totally unusual structure," he said. "The Leaning Tower of Pisa [in Italy] attracts over two-and-a-half million people a year, and they walk up – there isn't an elevator. But it's a beautiful historic landmark." Management at the CN Tower itself does not seem concerned about the possible loss of its stature. If, indeed, it ever happens. "From time to time we hear of building projects designed to surpass the height of the CN Tower, but to date no such endeavour has been completed," said tower general manager Jack Robinson, in a written statement. "If such a project comes to completion, we will continue to remain proud of having held this record for 30 years and much more." Robinson said the tower remains a Wonder of the Modern World, so-designated by the American Society of Civil Engineers, and will always be a national icon.
