This is cool. First they do the main concrete supports, then move those yellow scaffolds as they make the concrete floors in between.

This is truly history in the making... This is a greater achievement in terms of height advancement than the Eiffel or Empire State, both of which are now international icons. It is very exciting to see it rising so very quickly!! :-D

Can someone gimme the rundown on what the land under the Burj Dubai is like? What it's made of, what they had to do to ensure it was safe to build on etc etc? Cheers.

Sorry to be OT, but there are no diesel cars in Dubai? What the heck? I mean the technology of these engines are much more developed now, they take less fuel and they accelerate better, much more flexible ecetera.

I know this may not be exactly relevant with this topic but the dubai desert classic (golf tournament) is currently taking place featuring who other than Tiger himself. Its on the golf channel and there are some great shots of the city in the backround.

i don't have a reasonable explanation, but many things have changed on the construction site

as i've mentioned previously, a mock up lake is being set up and new access roads have been created

that huge sand hill now seems to be removed over the next couple of weeks

we can also see a major progress being made on the construction of the floor plates

these are the only reasons coming to my mind justifying a slowdown of the towers' growth

Propably the reason why the core rising has slowed down, has to do with the fact that they are doing the floor plates now and if you see carefully, you'll notice that the 4th sections of the wings (the so called noses) have risen more then just one floor on the last 2 weeks.

(BTW, diesel cars are available in Dubai but not popular for the same reasons that they aren't in USA.)

Wow, amazing pictures! This thing is going up fast. By the way, I just found the video for the Burj Dubai on Emaar's site but I can't get it to work because it just says "buffering" forever. Does anybody know how to fix this problem?

Either the server is really slow or your connection is weak. Or something in between is busted.
