Hilton Doha | 28 fl | 105m | COM

Simplex has already undertaken projects worth Rs15bn abroad in the past. Presently, we are executing an EPC Contract of Qatar Petroleum that has been directly awarded from Qatar Government. Recently, Simplex has also bagged a project worth Rs1.06bn for New Doha Hotels Company for construction and completion of a 7 Star Hotel "Hilton Doha" in Qatar . The company has floated its first JV outside country in Bahrain with the local partner. The new company Almoayyed WLL, a 50:50 partnership with Simplex and Almoayyed Group (one of the largest business houses of Bahrain), would have a paid up equity capital of Rs60mn.

I just googled this and this showed up...
http://www.arabnews.com/?page=6&sect...=10&m=1&y=2006

Looks like this 7-star hotel is going to be in Jeddah after all, not Doha...

First Qatari hotel for the Group

Hilton International has today announced the appointment and signing of a 15 year Management Contract to open and operate a new Hilton Hotel in Doha, Qatar. The 320-room property will be the first Hilton hotel in Qatar and will be operated on behalf of New Doha Hotel Company.
"The Middle East region is experiencing strong growth, both as a business and leisure destination, and we are pleased to be opening Hilton Doha as the country is developing rapidly," said Rudi Jagersbacher, Vice President Arabian Peninsula, Hilton International, at the company's press conference, held on December 8, 2003.

"Qatar shows enormous potential with the commercial opportunities of the largest non-associated gas field and 3rd largest natural gas reserves in the world. Qatar has a thriving banking industry and is an important regional conference centre. Doha in particular, has a rich mix of Arabic culture and heritage plus new metropolitan shopping, leisure and entertainment attractions which has stimulated tourism growth of 32% annually" added Jagersbacher.

Hilton had earlier signed a Memorandum of Understanding with New Doha Hotel Company on behalf of the hotel's owner and Nadir Badruddin - Managing Director and partner, to build the US$ 60 million development in the upmarket Al Dafnah district on the prestigious Corniche. The development team consists of: Project Management: Hamarain Project Management (HPM), Architects and Consultants: Crang and Boake, Consultants: Sabex Engineering.

Hilton Doha will comprise two floors of public areas together with a 20-floor guestroom tower, with all guestrooms featuring sea views of the Gulf. The hotel's facilities will include a dedicated conference wing with meeting rooms and a ballroom, three restaurants, extensive leisure, fitness, recreation facilities and underground parking. The opening of Hilton Doha is scheduled for December 2005.

They already finished the foundation works for this project. The whole project might take more than a year to finish... I wonder though why didnt they start on it before. The article above dates from 2004 if I am not mistaken??

The first two floors are almost done. Work is so slow for this project but hopefully they will work fast.
