Barbican is so ugly, why cant they just demolish it or renovate it to something that looks good.

Because it's grade listed and an important part of British architectural history.

The concrete could definitely do with a deep clean or painting mind. There was a large brutalist complex in north London that was entirely repainted, similar results would be amazing on the towers

By chance, are you referring to the estate off Hornsey Road, between Sobell Center & Emirates Stadium?

Wow, I had no idea. (As someone who moved to london after 2000) I thought it was a pretty new building and looked incredibly like yet another incredibly bland green glass meh thing because that's what gets built recently. Looks so much better in that 'before' pic.

Well the base is an improvement now, as is the interior. Externally we ended up with a compromise that aesthetically is not only worse than what was proposed, but probably worse than what was there before. I hope that somebody in the heritage lobby learnt something after this.

The paper behind the windows accentuates the colour of the high quality tinted glass for today's professional.

Someone on flickr, who presumably lives or works nearby, has a photo album with pictures taken every morning during the construction. The latest picture is from 24th May - maybe she's been on holiday since then. Some great pictures though: http://www.flickr.com/photos/maryloo...43270/?page=24

The glass seems fine to me, as green glass goes it isn't as obvious as the glass in St Georges Wharf for example.

A bigger concern for me, heaving walked around the building is how unfriendly it will appear at ground level, the building lacks a front end, all sides look as anonymous as each other and the side facing Citypoint is a sheer black wall. The quality of the materials seems okay for a background building but in terms of enhancing the area around it I am not sure this does all that much.
