I notice that the tracks are quite near to the business establishments, mosques and residences. Will your government and mrt jakarta install sound barriers to reduce the inconvenience of sound polution?

MRT is confirmed to have sound barriers. No information about the LRTs, though

After 10 years there was no development of rail-based public transport development, Jakarta has finally embarked on this massive development.
MRT and LRT began in the wake simultaneously and finished simultaneously.

Five MRT stations to be integrated with Transjakarta bus stops
Jakarta | Thu, February 2, 2017 | 09:33 am

PT. MRT Jakarta has plans to integrate five of its 13 commuter train stations with the bus stops of city-owned company Transjakarta. The MRT stations are located at Lebak Bulus, Blok A, Sisingamangaraja and Dukuh Atas in South Jakarta, as well as at the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle in Central Jakarta.

“We have coordinated this with PT Transjakarta and the plan is feasible,” PT MRT Jakarta project manager Heru Nugroho said on Wednesday.

The city's first MRT is expected to carry nearly 200,000 passengers per day. It is therefore expected to effectively reduce congestion in the capital. The MRT was initially scheduled to be in operation by 2018 but the project has been hampered by land acquisition issues. The MRT is now expected to open in March 2019.

MRT Jakarta: Digging the city

The US$1.7 billion rail-based mass rapid transit (MRT) megaproject is expected to solve the traffic gridlock in the capital Jakarta. Is it safe from potential floods and earthquakes?

by Ayomi Amindoni

In the barely lit mouth of the tunnel hemmed in by the perfectly arching walls there was something almost gleaming ahead. As far as the eye could see, the curved tunnel looked flashy with lights installed along 300 meters. At certain angles it reflects a silvery white hue. It's as beautiful as a samurai sword, but not as deadly.

Along the tunnel, the air was thick and hot, like wandering into a steam bath. At the end of the tunnel, there were around 10 workers led by a foreign engineer operated a giant boring machine digging Jakarta's underground.

“This is the first MRT project in Indonesia. I am honored to work on this project,” one man said proudly.

It was Supono, a 30-year-old man who was busy installing a prism lamp in a tunnel segment located under Jl. Sudirman, one of the city's busiest streets during the daytime. Wearing personal protective equipment and an orange helmet, the sturdy man carefully put the prism lamp in its position to make an accurate reflection to determine whether the 322-meter tunnel section was in line with its design.

“The prisms are installed at certain points, 100 meters or 20 meters, depending on the field conditions,” Supono explained with a typical Javanese accent.

He had been working on the MRT construction for half a year. Like other workers, this was his first experience constructing an underground transportation system. Previously, he worked as a surveyor on various construction projects since 2004.

“I’ve been working here since the tunnel boring machine operation started. Every day I work underground. This is my very first time working on such a construction project since there was no underground transportation project before,” he said, adding that despite the sultry conditions in the tunnel he considered the work on the capital’s first ever underground railway a privilege.

Yes, the Indonesian capital is witnessing construction of its first mass rapid rail transport (MRT) after more than two decades of postponement.

Dont forget the massive upgrades on the Commuter train system which are being done along the Manggarai - Cikarang (east-west) corridor. This will be a huge boost to this part of the network, separating intercity and local trains eventually.

The elevated BRT.. so sad to see. Looks terrible, does not cater modern needs (should be rail based line if you ask me) and stations have to be reached by many stairs, in some locations as high as 4 stories. Crazy.

I agree, but would also like to point out that elevators and escalators can usually be installed afterwards (not easily, but it can be done). And upgrading to LRT has looked possible on all elevated BRT infrastructure I've seen.

Hyundai Rotem wins Jakarta light metro order
02 Feb 2017

INDONESIA: Hyundai Rotem announced on February 2 that it had been selected to supply rolling stock for the first phase of the light metro network under construction in Jakarta.

Components for the eight two-car rubber-tyred trainsets will be supplied by Woojin Industrial Systems. Deliveries are due to take place between July and October next year, with entry into service expected in 2018.

Construction of the initial 5·8 km section between Cibubr and Cawang began in September 2015. This will serve five stations and is scheduled to open in time for the Asian Games in August 2018, which Jakarta is hosting.

The rolling stock contract includes options for further 110 cars to operate on further phases of the network.

The light metro is a separate project from the underground heavy metro currently under construction in Jakarta, for which a consortium of Sumitomo Corp and Nippon Sharyo is supplying rolling stock.

Jakarta's Airport Express Train Unfeasible, Gov't Back to Drawing Board

Jakarta. The government is going back to the drawing board with an express train that would connect two major airports of Jakarta, after a study indicated the track would not generate enough return to attract private investors.

This is another setback for the capital in its struggle to cope with growing urbanization and traffic.

The 34-kilometer express railway linking Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, and Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in East Jakarta is one of the capital's strategic projects, with a high priority for government funding, which is going to be build under a public-private partnership scheme.

However, a feasibility study conducted by the government's infrastructure financing arm Sarana Multi Infrastruktur concluded that the government will have to foot Rp 17.5 trillion ($1.3 billion), or 70 percent of the Rp 25 trillion bill for the rail track, because the revenue might be insufficient to cover the private sector's investment.

According to regulations on public-private partnerships, the government's participation in any PPP project, known as viability gap funding, is set at 50 percent of a project's cost.

"This means we have to review the plan. We can add something to the track, change the route, take a detour or skip certain locations," director general of trains at the Ministry of Transportation Prasetyo Boeditjahjono said in a recent interview.

In the original plan, the express train would start in Halim Perdanakusuma and would stop at Tebet, Manggarai and Tanah Abang stations in downtown Jakarta, before reaching Soekarno Hatta.

Prasetyo said the ministry is also drafting a presidential regulation to grant it more power to accelerate the project. The draft will also specify the project's contractor — state-construction company Pembangunan Perumahan.

The train's track will be integrated with existing network, which has been expanded by state railway operator Kereta Api Indonesia to reach the Soekarno-Hatta airport.

Budget Not Able to finance LRT Jabodebek

Jakarta - The government still has not decided the light rail project financing schemes (light rail transit / LRT) Jakarta-Bogor-Depok and Bekasi (Jabodebek). Though the project is already underway.

In accordance with the Presidential Decree (Decree) No. 65 of 2016 concerning amendments to the Presidential Decree No. 98 Year 2015 on the Acceleration Operator Railway Light / Light Rail Transit Integrated in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, and Bekasi. The government decided to finance projects worth Rp 23 trillion to the state budget.

But in its journey financing schemes that applied yet to be decided. Thus, in a closed meeting chaired by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) today on the development of LRT Jabodebek, the ministers asked to decide the scheme within the next week.

"What is clear is still the state budget for the Presidential Regulation reads like that. Just like that. Then, this sealed because the budget is too big. So the possibilities as to what," said Director General of Railways Ministry, Prasetyo Boeditjahjono, in the Palace complex, Jakarta Monday (06/02/2017).

Adhi Karya as a contractor in need of working capital for the construction of the first phase of LRT Jabodebek Rp 7 trillion. Workmanship from Cibubur-East Bekasi-Cawang and Cawang.
