Really goods pics there lads,I have to say that park square roundabout has matured very well since the trams were built also loved the grey/blue trams in the picture. Debenhams actually looks better back then than its does now with the grey cladding. Its amazing how many buildingshave been built in the last 40 years and have now gone or have been reclad.
I noticed lots of fountains in the pictures that a now no more,im glad that Sheffield are at leat building lots more and long may they last! |

For more information, viewers may wish to refer to The Lyceum Theatre Book, published when the theatre reopened in 1990. Written and edited by... er... me! (You are unlikely to find a trace of it anywhere other than the Central Library these days I fear. Shame.)

As Hella Good says, Sheffield isn't quite as dense as it once was but I still think it looks great - how many other big cities are built on so many hills?! I do hope to visit again soon Love from Butterfield ps. great photos! |

This site has some great 'then and now' pics of the Sheffield flood, which wreaked destruction all the way to the top of the Wicker. The city centre escaped only due to its higher elevation.

Wonder why they got rid of the black hotel sign at the top of the Grosvenor, and replaced it with temporary-looking yellow writing. I guess we'll never know.

I found this pic on Pete fcs's website, which I think could this be the old site of Hyde Park Stadium. I have searched all over and can hardly even find a reference to it. It's like it never existed. But along with the flats, it used to dominate the view to the South East.
Anyone remember the stadium? |

Must have been in the late 70's. I remember it had a big stand with the words "Hyde Park Stadium" painted in white letters on the roof. It was visible from the city centre. It was only used for greyhound racing in its final days, but hosted other sports many years ago.
