Guys, no offense but Moldova SUCKS....I went there quite recently (March 2007) and when I re-entered Romania I stepped out of the car i was driving, kneeled down and kissed the ground...I swear that's what I did!!! I couldn't believe that the kind of poverty I experienced in Moldova could still exist in today's Europe...and it's not just a few parts...IT'S THE ENTIRE DAMN COUNTRY! I'm sorry guys, but Moldova is in deep s***!!!

Well, it could be because that country is dirt poor! I was actually asking myself the same question...I don't think they would be much to show anyway...

You described exactly my experience with Moldova. Unfortunately, peoples in Moldova don`t have the courage to change something. Their politicians, old rusofil communists, still think that is better to be under the `protector wing` of Mother Rusia.

60 years of bad communist experience + the experiences of other EE states wich are actually members of EU still don`t open their eyes. In my opinion they`ll change only when they`ll have more courage to rediscover/come back at their roots (Romania) inside EU.

No offence, but Rusia is still far from what it means democracy, freedom etc (the true european values). Everybody know it and I`m not sure that they will change soon ! We hope that they will do it because it will be better for everybody not only for russians. There is a lot of potential for cooperation and economic development around the Black Sea !

Anyway, it is their choice. Romania was/is always open to help Moldova to enter EU and rebecome at one moment what we were before the war. But you know that even though we speak the same language and have commun history/culture etc, their idiot politicians don`t think the same ! It is ridiculous and in the same time very bad for the moldavian people.

However, let`s be optimists !

You guys are being too negative towards Moldova just give them some time. It will change when new government comes to power and tells all the russians to get their shit and go back to their Bearland and thats when Moldova is going to change for the better.

I agree with you, UKR87 !

Things will inevitably change in Moldova ! It is only a questions of time ! ... and it is in the power of Moldova`s peoples to choose the good politicians that can accelerate the reforms and put Moldova on the natural way of integration in EU. When they will do it, the investors will immediatelly appears on the virgin land of Moldova.

* Chisinau has nice parks and beautiful girls !

-----------

BG_PATRIOT, you exaggerate with `probably one of the nicest buildings in Chisinau...`. Check the first page man and you will discover that Chisinau is not a village !

Actually it's incorrect to call current Moldovan leadership as "russian puppets" so to speak, the Russians actually consider Moldova to be one of the "anti russian states".

Anyway, about poverty, for someone from UK or Germany, all of EE is dirtpoor. I don't think we should point a finger at each other who is a little better off or worse off. I'm sure there's something nice and positive about Moldova to be said.

Well, first of all I would like to assure all of you guys that Moldova will NEVER join the European Union, and this will be due to a variety of reasons. Croatia, most likely, will be the last member that the EU will ever receive, because of Sarkozy wins in France this Sunday, then Turkey is almost out of the question. Not to mention that during this period, Turkey is on the brink of a military coup d'etat, which would most definitely irreversibly stain the face of Turkey in fron of the EU.
Second of all, I would like to assure Dr. Mesofius that things are not exactly the way he put it, when he talked about EE as being "dirt poor" for a German or British. Of course, if you read the bullshit dirt that UK newspapers write about Romania and Bulgaria, then you would surely be persuaded in believing that EE is truly dirt poor. However, I have had first-hand experiences with foreigners in Romania, whom I invited there as friends from my US University. And I must tell you that, with a little attention from the behalf of the guide (me in this case), these people were astonished by the beauties and development in Romania. Of course, there are lenty of parts that they need not see, and I made sure of that, but the point is that after 2 weeks there, they were utterly impressed with Romania. I mean, let's face it guys...a nice apartment in Bucharest + a lot of booze and partying and NICE girls and clubs like Bamboo + great restaurants+ midnight car races on Magheru (Romanians will know what I mean )+ movies at the malls + a great 5 day trip to beautiful Transylvania (1 night in Brasov, 1 night in Sibiu, 1 night in Sighisoara, 1 night at Cheile Gradistei near Bran) + Peles Castle + 3 days of INSANE prtying on the seaside with a Deep Dish concert at LaMania in the first night + SO MANY OTHER THINGS.....WHO WOULD NOT LOVE THIS? Well, one thing that I can tell you fors sure is that Moldova offers none of these, and even though we say that it has beautiful women, which it does, who in the right mind would have the balls to even look at them when a strange looking Russian gangster is waiting around the corner for a good reason to kick your ass: "What do you want from our women?"..that's probably what you'd hear, with a thick Russian accent of course, before they'd sent you the the hospital into a coma...and I'm not gonna discuss the Moldavian healthcare system here... However, if you do want to meet good looking Moldavian ladies, I suggest you come to Bucharest, because that's where most of them moved in search for a better life...and they didn't go wrong, in my opinion! So yeah, the future does not look too bright for Moldova from what I experienced upon my last visit there

Andrei, I also had this experience. I`ve met in Chisinau beautiful girls at UofC. They were nice students very happy to meet a romanian. So I invited them in a bar, BUT ... at one moment, a stout nape Sasha with similar friends appears (they were a liitle bit drunk, too) and they makes me feel that I must move my ass soon if I don`t want to have problems ! The girls were completely dissapointed and convinced me that is better for us to evitate those idiot bastards than asking them politely to leave us alone ! So,

I have to admit that I`ve never tried to go out during the night. Everybody told me that is better for me if I stay in my room because it`s dangerous. The street lights are completely absent in many places, a lot of peoles speak russian and you cannot understand WTF they want from you. Unfortunatelly, in 50 years of communism Russia succceded to russify Moldova. I don`t know exactly how many russians are living now in Moldova but I think that their number is considerable.

Yap, sounds bad but it`s the true reality ! Moldova is confused and has problems but let`s hope that things will change ! I prefer to remain optimist and wish all the best to our brothers !

well guys - the thing is that the only reason Moldova is this situation is because it has been in Russia's claws all this time - and the worst part is that people there got the worst things possible from russian society - crime, short haircuts, idiotic clothing style and vodka love. But don't forget that Romania gave it away because some dumb ass fu**ers from the parliament back in the 40's were cowards... but this is an other story so let's not talk abut it... Chisinau is not that bad - it's kinda neglected by the investors but is far better that a lot of cities from Romania I have been to - and maybe nicer than Bucharest in terms of dormitory districts - it's very green, it's clean (far cleaner than Bucharest for example) and a better thought infrastructure, (apropo de cartiere - spre deosebire de bucuresti - in chisinau nu exista zone cu baraci , care sufoca in ultimul hal Bucurestiul sau tot felul de constructii dubioase si acoperite cu faianta - dupa modelul capitalei noastre europene...). So cut the crap Andrei4Romania - it's easy to criticize, but i think if you would eat for more than 50 years the Soviet propaganda, having all of the valuable people deported or killed, i think you'd be as any Sasha from there. Chisinau has a pretty big population - some 900.000 with the it's satellite towns(some 75-80% are romanians) and maybe with some healthy attitude, like Basescu's for instance, those romanians will have a better future. I hate the fact that in Romania of today, most people think that they can give grades only because they were lucky enough to be on the right side of Prut river. I was born in Chisinau and lived there for some time and I could go back there if it were in ROmania. And by the way - I've been there not long ago and there are far more new blocks than in Bucharest - though inspired from the russian typical style, the town's districts look fresher than Bucharest's for instance.

Exactly, this is so typical of EE, when one guy has 2 more pennies than his neighbour, he starts to feel so superior.

We can easily write a whole shitload of problems for every single country in EE, not just Moldova.
