MANILA, Philippines – If Singapore has the Singapore Sling, Manila now has Manila Sunshine as its signature cocktail.

The drink was recently launched by the Department of Tourism (DOT) in cooperation with the Makati Shangri-La hotel as part of its efforts to attract more foreigners to the country.

Described as “distinctly Filipino,” Manila Sunshine has “lambanog,” or coconut wine, as its base.

It also has the flavors of local fruits mango and pineapple, with a tinge of triple sec and dark rum from Tanduay, an alcoholic beverage in the Philippines.

The cocktail is garnished with “tanglad” or lemongrass, and a sliced pineapple.

It is considered as Asia’s largest atoll-like reef, the second largest in the world next only to Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. It is a 34 square kilometer reef that serves as habitat of more than 350 marine species such as sharks, sea hawks, manta rays, stingrays and other tropical fishes and invertebrates. The reef and its surrounding waters are administered as a National Park as part of the Apo Reef Natural Park project.

Dubbed as the “jewel of Mindoro”, Divers explore a coral-encrusted sea wall and with the abundance of its marine life, it has been hailed as “the center of Earth’s marine diversity.”

Tinuy-an Falls is a waterfall in Bislig City, Surigao del Sur in the southern Philippine island of Mindanao.
Its magnificent cascades are found in Borboanan, Bislig City, a one hour ride from Mangagoy, center of tradekand commerce in Bislig City. About 55 meters high and a breathtaking width of 95 meters, it is said to be the widest in the country. Centuries old amazing giant trees, ferns and vines in a thick rainforest envelop your ride through thick forested hills that enclose the falls. Islets are on the swimming ground, with slippery logs where you can cross for a good view, plus multi-layered stones as pathways. Every morning, the area is blessed with a sprinkle of a rainbow that appears between 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

This little known town is blessed with a hidden treasure --a stunning blue river nestled within a mountainside and protectively covered by a forest. Its dark tinge comes from the Pacific sea pouring in from a deep underwater crevice. To local folks, it is said to be enchanted. Full of rich marine fishes swimming in the deep blue, no one is said to have ever caught one. Once you take a dip in the cool, clear waters, you don't want to come out.

Hinatuan can be reached by land from Davao in an estimated 7 hours, or via Bislig City in less than 2 hours.
