Under construction! The core is due to begin rising in late November according to this video. The tower will be topped-out in late 2010 and is scheduled for practical completion by May 2012. ![]() Bishopsgate Tower - "The Pinnacle" The City Height: 288m | Floors: 63 | Architect: Kohn Pederson Fox | Developer: Union Investment Real Estate AG (formerly known as DIFA) Links: Forum thread | Bishopsgate Tower promotional video (23mb) | Skyscrapernews listing Notes:
Piling is complete. Keltbray are back on site, to complete demo of the basement levels of the previous building, and to complete the enabling works. Construction of the basements for the new building will then follow. The core and superstructure won't rise above ground until late 2010. Despite the long wait, it seems highly likely that this tower will eventually be built. The final contract (for the concrete) will be awarded shortly. All of the retail space has been let, plus over 25% of the office space, and the four restaurant floors at the top. Topping-out is scheduled for late 2012, and the building is due to open in 2013. ![]() Heron Tower The City Height: 246m (202m roof + 44m spire) | Floors: 47 | Architect: Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates | Developer: Heron International PLC Links: Forum thread | Skanska project page with news updates | Mayor Ken Livingstone's comments | Architects' website Notes:

It's a very impressive list with some stunning proposals. But i have one question: what's the point of designing and proposing skyscrapers while the time of construction is uncertain, like the Riverside South, North Quay and especially Heron Quays West? Some projects are known for years, but haven't made any serious progress. Why?

Yeah, thats a point I don't understand too. London must be a very attractive city if you take a look at the house prices. I don't understand why the buildings aren't going #UC already.

There are alot of obsticles to clear in the UK before you can build, not to mention most inner city sites are already occupied by other buildings which means demolision alone takes 12 or so months.
Not all of the world has massive open space like you Mr Dubai

![]() Just about every city that proposes skyscrapers does not know the time of construction, cus that aint the point. It is not their job to design skyscrapers only when a site is fully available and ready to build on. London is quite an old city, and has more buildings in it then any other city in Europe, and as such, just about every skyscraper proposed is going to be on a site that has an existing building still on it, and it can take a lot of time for the previous tennants to move out (the tennants of the area where LBT will go are being very stubborn!), and the building to be demolished. London isn't like Dubai, where there is lots of free land and no-one to wait for, London is a city where there isn't much space to build on, so land prices are expensive and construction of a building is a serious issue that takes a lot of time to approve! But don't woory, there are alredy a few buildings under construction and in the coming years more will start, remember, a lot have already been approved, plus there could be a few new skyscraper propsals in the future that might be able to proceed quickly. Just give it time! While other cities are in a construction boom now, so will London be in the near future!

I love the way Deputy PM John Prescott gives approval to these beautiful skyscrapers and doesn't care what English Heritage or anyone else thinks!!

What's really impressive to me is that many of these towers have very "green" designs.

making up for lost time eh London. These are some excellent skyscrapers being planned. If built London's skyline will be worldclass. A lot of glass. Loved them all- except for Beetham Tower. It looked a little too out of place

Yer I agree, I love eceryone of the new breed of London skyscrapers being proposed, excep for Beetham, I really hope they don't approve that one, jus looks too bulky and out of place. A few weeks ago I would have said LBT was my favourite, but the more I look at the Bishopsgate tower, the more I love it, and I now think it rivals just about every other skyscraper out there! LBT is still my second fav though!

Beetham is stunning - and by the way other skyscrapers are planned for this area aswell so it wont be alone and will form another cluster.
