It's heritage listed, so there's thankfully no chance of demolition.

It only looks bad now because it's seen approximately zero external maintenance for years, and people are allowed to hang up whatever crap they want on the balconies, making a mess of the original architecture. Once it's repaired it will look nicer than 90% of new builds.

I wish they would refurbish the Barbican and make it more welcoming.

If they can polish the turd like they did with the Brunswick Centre, that would be brilliant. If they can put more shops, restaurants, cafes, pubs, and bars surrounding the water feature, that would be fantastic.

£175m M25-A3 junction revamp plan decided

http://www.constructionenquirer.com/...-plan-decided/

Quote:
Designs for a £175m upgrade to one of the busiest motorway junctions in the country on the M25 in Surrey have been agreed.

The plans will see the Junction 10, interchange between the M25 and the A3 redesigned as a elongated roundabout to add more road capacity and improve safety with provision of dedicated free-flow left turns for all traffic leaving and joining the M25.

The existing roundabout will be retained for walkers, cyclists and horse riders.

Plans drawn up by Atkins will also see the A3 widened from three lanes to four between Ockham and Painshill in both directions with two lanes remaining over the M25.

Green light for world’s tallest modular tower in Croydon

http://www.constructionenquirer.com/...er-in-croydon/

Quote:
Croydon planners have given the green light for a twin-tower scheme of build-to-rent flats that will become the world’s tallest offsite scheme.

Tide Construction, with funding from investor Greystar, is planning to build the 44 and 38-storey scheme on the former Essex House site near to East Croydon station.

The 546-flat towers scheme, drawn up by HT Design, will be worth over £150m and will be a trailblazer for modular construction methods.

Presently, the tallest prefabricated building in the world is a 32-storey block in New York.

Barbican is a wonderful example of Brutalism.

It needs no alteration.. merely a scrub.

I like the patina at the Barbican. It looks like pine trees.

Also the residents pay good money to live there, they probably don't want it to be "more inviting" and then have crowds of people going through their quiet outdoor spaces.

BAM starts work on £42m London law school

http://www.constructionenquirer.com/...on-law-school/

Quote:
City, University of London has confirmed BAM as main contractor for its £42m City Law School development.

BAM has now just started work on site and the project is scheduled for completion in mid 2019.

Works involve rationalising four existing buildings that form a corner at Sebastian Street and Goswell Road, EC1.

Two of these – a pre-fabricated health centre from the 1970s and a former factory from 1947 – will be demolished.

Two other buildings, former factories at Goswell Road and the Myddleton Building, will be retained, but integrated into the new campus designed by Wilkinson Eyre.
