Indeed, plus Manchester's 188m Eastgate tower and the Leeds 171m La Lumiere scheme should be starting too!

Dont forget the 176 metre Pinnacle in Brum.

Is Bishopsgate going to be done for the 2012 Olympics?

Hopefully. Now that it has investors, I would expect it to be completed in 2010/2011

Thats pretty fast considering that both the 176 metre Pinnacle and the 140 metre Snow Hill (as examples) are both expected for 2010 as well. This is almost double them.

The bottom two are new renderings, are they not? They look much more palatable without the riot of coloured glass and just simple transparent glass cladding. On the basis of these renders, this tower is potentially stunning, and I had grave reservations before.

aren't the top two new renderings? or do you mean the bottom two are new renderings of the old design?

notice how they don't want to let on in the new renderings just how wide the building is.

I still think its going to be rejected.

I love it: Better than sea container house, which is the one that should be demolished presto-- silly council, where are their priorities? How can they let the disgusting bulky invidious lego block ruin the river bank, my word??

BT tower would look better if those sat dishes were covered or removed -- too messy.

The lipstick-shaped Ontario Tower is nearing completion.

Here's a good view of the development from the east, taken by SE9 -

Shard: Funding AND tenants already lined up, plans are underway to prepare for demolition in the middle of next year and construction straight after. This is definately going ahead

Leadenhall: Simultaneous demolition and construction starts next month

Bishopsgate tower: Demolition already underway, a proper thread will be started when it is 100% confirmed that the recent news is true, that arabs are funding it

Heron: Being built speculatively, does not need a tenant. Funding was needed for it to start, but that has now been given. Again just waiting for 100% confirmation from the arabs.

A month or two ago I would agree with you, I thought only the Shard and Leadenhall would actually be built, but after the news of the last few weeks, I think it's a fair bet that we will infact get ALL of the big city towers.

Works on all 4 should start next year

And that isn't even including Canary wharf or the western parts of the city
