As an island nation we should be taking advantage of our extensive wind energy potential.
These are out of the way so NIMBY's cannot complain and this is an area which we are currently leading. Why doesn't the government invest more?
Protect the industry and then installation prices etc will drop as competition increases.

Also I think they look amazing.

Yes you are right that they should take advantage of wind energy, but in all honesty I wouldn't want to see the sea/ocean become one giant wind farm. Too much is overkill, I'm all for development of this nations infrastructure but I still think we should look after the fantastic natural environments we have as well. And before anybody says it, no I'm not a nimby!

What people seem to forget when they complain about wind-farms 'blighting' the natural environment is that they are temporary; they can be removed without causing permanent harm to the environment they were placed.

I have no problem with seeing the coastline dotted with them because eventually when we develop Fusion power we can always remove them. It's important we cut our emissions as quickly as possible.

The London Array wind farm is owned, developed and built by a consortium of Dong Energy, E.ON and Abu Dhabi's renewable energy firm Masdar ( source )

World's biggest offshore wind farm with 300 turbines will be built in Lincolnshire

Quote:
Plans to create the world's biggest offshore wind farm off the coast of Britain have been approved.

Work on the massive Triton Knoll site - 288 giant wind turbines off the Lincolnshire coast - can now begin after the £3.6bn project was given the go ahead.

It will dwarf Britain's current largest offshore facility, the 175-turbine London Array in the Thames Estuary unveiled last week by David Cameron.
Source: Dailymail

When complete, the new giant wind farm will generate 1.2 gigawatts of electricity, enough to power for 820,000

People will gripe over anything. The new windfarm off Lincolnshire had its nimbys even though its well away from the shore.
