Birmingham has the biggest rail network outside London. It has the busiest rail interchange outside London. Birmingham does have a metro, albeit smaller than Manchesters but its growth was originally hindered by the fact that Birmingham was trying to get an underground. Funding wasn't supplied and to this day remains one of the largest cities in Europe and the World without one. Midland Metro (Centro) is being developed as we speak. Snow Hill - New Street will be completed by 2015 and New Street to Centenary Square by 2017. Birmingham will also open it's runway extension in a few weeks enabling which will see the airport nearly double in size within 6 years.

Exactly right. No city should have to. But Birmingham was FORCED too which has now created this uneven split in wealth across the country.

This is blissful ignorance. Birmingham has the largest city centre masterplan in the UK. It has 27 Enterprise zones, the most of any city. It also has the only enterprise zones to cover the city centre.

Wirral Waters is a fantastic 'concept' however it's just that and will take many decades to build.

Birmingham is the most attractive regional UK city for FDI and has the only trade surplus with China which is why the first ever direct flights from China to the UK outside London was agreed with Birmingham.

Also Ironically - The same plan that was undertaken in Birmingham, was planned for London. Fortunately this didn't happen which is probably why London has continued to be such a success story.

Anyway - Enough of this.

Back to London's developments.

Okay that's a brilliant answer and it's nice to see that you know your stuff about your own City. But.... if Birmingham has such a large rail network scheme, 27 enterprise zones, and strong Chinese Business connections... then whats gone wrong exactly?
Either;

A) The Plan is failing...

or

B) Maybe the networks, Enterprise Zones, and Connections just aren't good enough/not attractive enough for businesses.

Also, Wirrall Waters or something along that line is just what Birmingham needs... although it is true that it will be years until that starts, Liverpool is still ahead as they have already planned and promoted such a project.

I love your posts and how you adore Birmingham - it's nothing personal mate.

Okay... back to London.

Because Birmingham is boring.

London is exciting. Manchester is exciting. Hell, even Liverpool is exciting. But Birmingham is boring.

Manchester and especially Liverpool are miles ahead in the cultural stakes. And that matters more than infrastructure or tax breaks or anything else. London is the cultural capital of the UK (and some would say Europe), and that's why it attracts so much business and industry and wealth. That's the order of things.

That's a funny joke. I think people should be aware that this is a funny joke.

Incredibly funny.

Btw, I think Nova Victoria clearly is the better Scalpel Tower. It acknowledges that there's something like a block alignment and a streetscape in London. Also its facade is much more interesting.

Its hard taking critique from a Rammstein fan, you don't exactly have your finger on the pulse of good taste.

Seriously, ja. This reinvented performance aesthetics for generations to come. Same here.

NV will be a great addition. Nice shapes, the pinstriped facade is excellent and modern, and the red glass is daring but not over the top.

If no one cares about the cityscape, you're getting the next Sao Paulo or Shenzhen. Congrats.
