I don't want to go off on a big tangent, there's probably a billion reasons for the change. But as someone who just moved out of the city, I didn't get the impression it was - on average - doing the opposite. A lot of my colleagues and friends also moved away, so I'm curious who moved in, and why.

Attractiveness of London internationally as a place to emigrate, Boston Consulting Group (released 2014):

More people do move out of London to other parts of the UK than move into London FROM other parts of the UK.

But as SE9's graphic shows, they are not generally moving out to other cities (other than those on the South Coast shown there)

The pattern for London tends to be that more people move in than out in their 20s, but once they pass 30 years old more people move out than in, often taking their young children with them.

Here's some figures I posted in another part of the forum.

And an analysis of moves between London and elsewhere in the UK during the year by age and gender.

Today I saw an article documenting this phenomenon for the first time: http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2...n-house-prices

Isn't London's population made up of 55% from people from abroad and 45% British born ?. Down from 80 %+ in 2001.

Let's try to stay on-topic? This thread is meant to discuss projects, not demographics.

IMO the British mods are striking the perfect balance between presenting the project developments and discussing the social, economical etc context behind the projects.

Good for you. However, these are different forums with different rules. No problem with the mix of development background and context, as long as it doesn't turn a projects thread into an offtopic population growth party. I am confident I don't need to explain how sensitive these kind of discussions are to trolling and political flame wars.

EDIT: The citytalk and urban issues forum is an excellent place for discussions like the one above. Thanks in advance.
