^ As has been alluded to, Gaudi, with a bit of retro-futurism, brutalism.

I'm definitely feeling the brutalism. This will certainly be an interesting development!

Probably has been asked before but what type of cladding will that be on the Tate Modern extension? It looks iron-ish. Probably also one of the reasons why it's taking so freaking long.

Way too long! The contractors were beset with problems, partly due to the form of the structure and logistical issues transporting materials from the Netherlands to London via flat-bed truck.

It's brickwork, the work is being carried out by Swift Brickwork Contractors. Their page on the works: http://www.swift-brickwork.com/tate-modern-2.html

A mock-up can be seen on this flickr set: https://www.flickr.com/photos/dannyb...57626516639174

Only the first floor or so will be hand laid brick. After that they will be applying brick clad panels.

Building Design
3 March 2015
Quote:
The new developer for the renamed Helter Skelter building in the City in London is expected to start pulling down what was started on site this summer.

A planning application for the scheme, now called 22 Bishopsgate, is due to be submitted with City of London planners in June, BD understands.

Lipton Rogers took over the site last month from Saudi Arabian owner Sedco, spelling the end for KPF’s 288m tall Helter Skelter building which had been on the drawing board since 2001.
