Only got so much flak due to what was being demolished to make way for it. If it were replacing a 60's block it would have been greeted with open arms and a huge kiss....

I think the old Odeon building was nice in places and ugly in places but the new building is all nice.

I've worked in that Odeon many years ago as a projectionist.

It was an average old building, rotting from the inside and too small and pokey in most rooms to be of any real use.

Good riddance. Was a sham for that to be a major cinema in the centre of London's film district.

The cladding on the us embassy looks nothing like the render. I have the feeling that this project is going to be another let down.

The extension is so deceptively big. You don't really get how goddamn monolithic it is from the renders. I think because the exterior gives the impression of transparency while the building itself is solid rock. I guess that's good design then because the structure looks nightmarish as it stands.

Europe’s superlab: Sir Paul’s cathedral

When the Francis Crick Institute opens in London this year, it will be Europe’s largest biomedical research centre. Can director Paul Nurse make this gamble pay off for UK science?

The Crick is definitely the kind of building you'd see in some 24/Walking Dead episode as the backdrop for some End Of The World supervirus research facility.

I know it's totally benign, but there's just something intrinsically ominous about the phrase 'Europe's Largest Biomedical Research Facility'.
