The monument building is terrible IMO for its location, it pays no respect to the monument and is a missed opportunity IMO, just having a curved corner or angled would have made it much better. Loving the white and gold theme in elephant and castle.

Yep, the typical decade long delay through which alot of middlemen make alot of money, and the new 'improved' design is more 'value engineered' to look crappier, and squatter. But which suddenly the nimbys approve because it's shorter and thus automatically means it must be prettier (showing their finely honed, educated aesthetic senses), despite the fact shorter means they make the building fatter to fit in the same floorspace. Even if floorspace isn't maximised the final result looks stumpy. This comes to mind:

shorter, squatter, fatter result that PLEASED the nimbys, but to many more wrecked the skyline.

Original, meant to be 1200 ft:

the final result, 200 ft shorter :

A final look at what could have been, Londons' Empire State:

People REALLY need to get it through their head that tall does not equal ugly. I honestly think the more ignorant people are the more vocal they get.

Indeed, the Shard is at the maximum allowed limit.

London Bridge Tower (87 storeys of office space) was the 1,200ft proposal:
