Lendlease gets go-ahead for £250m Stratford office project

Joint developers Lendlease and London & Continental Railways have gained consent for the third major building in their International Quarter development at Stratford in east London.

The large office project will rise to 21 storeys offering almost 800,000 sq ft of space.

Designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, building S4 in Zone 2 of the development plan will cost an estimated £250m to build.

The construction arm of Lendlease will deliver the project, which is nearly the size of the combined two earlier buildings for Transport for London and the Financial Conduct Authority.

Ben O’Rourke, Lendlease’s managing director of International Quarter London, said: “This building reflects International Quarter London’s focus on creating a pioneering workplace for progressive businesses, placing culture, health and wellbeing at its heart.

“The flexible design will allow it to be occupied by single or multiple tenants, and includes a number of technological innovations which are firsts in the UK on this scale.

“For example, it will feature an intelligent closed-cavity façade which tracks the sun with dynamic shading and a supply of 100% fresh air throughout the building.”

Brookfield said to be in talks to buy $732 million London tower

Brookfield Asset Management Inc. is in exclusive talks to acquire CityPoint Tower, a London office building less than a mile from the Bank of England, according to two people with knowledge of the matter.

The 36-story building will probably sell for less than 600 million pounds ($976 million), the people said, asking not to be identified because the plan is private.

The skyscraper’s appraised value is 660 million pounds, according to a June report sent to investors in commercial mortgage-backed securities linked to the property. Brookfield and KPMG LLP, the receiver appointed to manage the property, declined to comment.

A Beacon Capital Partners Inc. fund defaulted on 429 million pounds of loans secured by the building in 2012. Brookfield had acquired the junior loan linked to the building in the City of London financial district in 2014, CoStar News reported at the time.

I'm not a fan of it either. I look forward to the improved permeability for pedestrians once complete!

Reopening of 22 Gordon Street
The Bartlett School of Architecture

UCL Estates have confirmed that 22 Gordon Street will be officially re-opened on 16th December 2016, and we will be fully installed by early January 2017.

To facilitate the move, over Christmas/New Year our spaces in both 132 and 140 Hampstead Road will be closed to students from 5pm Friday 16th December 2016 until 9am Monday 9th January 2017 inclusive. The move is being managed by a dedicated team who will keep the school informed of progress in the weeks ahead. Programme Directors and administrators will also convey specific advice to their cohorts on timetabling and logistics particular to each group.

Our return to Bloomsbury will crown a historic period for the school that arcs back to the early 1990's when our academic profile was turned on its head and we were rebuilt into an international institution of significant creative force. More than 25 years later, it's now our physical and social environments that are being rebuilt, providing us with 6000 m2 of space, 2000 m2 more than we presently have at 132 and 140 Hampstead Road, and 3000 m2 more than we had in 2011. But that's not all, by this time next year we will also have 4000 m2 of additional high-volume space at Here East, amounting to a tripling in size of our estate within 5 years, with anticipated students numbers exceeding 1200 by 2019-20. A collection of exquisite photographs by Paul Smoothy which document the demolition and reconstruction of 22 Gordon Street are currently on display on the first and second floor of 140 Hampstead Road.

So you are engaging with us at an extraordinary period of transformation manifesting in the shape of new spaces, new partnerships, expanded programmes, new programmes, new staff, increased strengths, improved resources, and unprecedented investment. It's no wonder we are organising the 16th December as an entire day of celebration beginning with the official VIP opening in the morning, tours of the building all afternoon, and a party sponsored by Hawkins\Brown Architects from early evening onwards. Do ensure you come along — it’s going to be a night to remember.
