London skyline shots can look particularly chaotic from some angles because of the distorting perspective effect caused by the path of the River Thames, especially when looking from the East & West.

Viewed from the North & the South, where the meandering path of the Thames is negated, the London skyline looks pretty normal with no sign of the chaos you claim.
True, but you can't deny the ugliness of the City after they built the walkie talkie or the area around the Strata tower...

Unusual, or uncommon doesn't necessarily mean ugly.

As someone who loves 20 Fenchurch, I beg to differ.

London's designs can be somewhat avant-garde, but the quality of building for most of them is top-notch and their interaction and scale at ground level are typically great. I think the City is beautiful with its twisting old streets that lead to skyscrapers popping up from a new vantage point.

What's wrong with area around Strata? It used be a real sh***ll back in 90s but not now.

that's true, people need to be more aware of what was there before they condemn new buildings. Quite often the new buildings might not be earth shatteringly beautiful but they are nearly always a huge improvement on what they are replacing.

This is not avant-garde, this is tacky. Whatever it was back then it has become a wasted opportunity now.

I may be in a minority but, were it not for the cheap looking, random cladding, I think the Strata would be a stunning building.

As it is, its fundamental bone structure is superb but its bad skin lets it down (for want of a better analogy).

It's been a while since I've been down that particular backstreet, but Strata's cladding struck me as high quality. The forumer above has chosen a low quality photo so it's not demonstrable there.
