Since 9/11, Bankers Trust Plaza (Deustche Bank Bldg) was left unoccupied, though it might be slated for demolition soon.

There are two in Dayton.

The Admiral Benbow Inn, which was a modernist hotel.

And an old high rise...

25 South Main bldg, from 1917.

I can't imagine a huge building being just abandoned. Don't the owners have to pay property tax and stuff? I quite sure there isn't any abandoned buildings in Toronto. Wiht our current boom, even occupied buildings are being demolished to build newer taller ones. BTW that building in pyongyang was not abondoned since it was never occupied in the first place. Its just a huge shell, there's nothing inside. It was supposed to be the world's tallest hotel but then the soviet union collapsed and north korea lost its only tourists.

Los Angeles had the 37 story 1100 Wilshire. It was built in 1987 but it was never more than %10 occupied. Eventually it became totally empty. Now it's being turned into condos.

It's striking because it's shaped like a triangle and sits on a 15 story parking structure. A beautiful building nonetheless.

Piraeus World Trade Centre: Athens (Piraues)

It was abandoned when there was a fatal error in the engineering. It still stands today. But there was a reconstruction proposed, pictures can be found here:

The KATEK building in Krasnoyarsk, Russia

Construction began in 1986 but was halted in 1991 due to lack of funds.

I think so. There have been several propsitions to resume construction, but so far none of them have gained any ground. At the moment, its a place where gangs and teens hang out.

If it was unsafe, it would be knocked down. Its just not habitable for commercial or residential purposes. The bottom 2 floors are used.

That Michigan Central building sticks out like a sore thumb when you cross the ambassador bridge.

I would rather see Bankers Trust Plaza rennovated rather than demolished b/c despite what happened to it on 9/11, it is still structurally sound.

I always found abandoned highrises eery for some reason. Its like the building is naked or dead and it is inpolite to stare at it. Anyone have that same feeling?

In Manhattan, it is very rare to see an abandonded skyscraper, but Deustche Bank is an exception to this.

The 1970's era Fiberglass Tower in Toledo has been abandoned for several years. Originally Owens Illinois left it for a newer tower on the river, The company is now leaving downtown Toledo altogether for the suburbs. Mold and Asbestos are now a problem in this handsome tower.
