I really like B744 in new livery of color. The new tail logo is so beautiful, simple, modern and the amazing blending of the colors. I am so amazed with the logo that I made it my avatar pic. Good job, GA!

Timika Airport authorities summoned over Garuda-Freeport dispute
The Jakarta Post , Jakarta | Tue, 01/05/2010 1:27 AM | National

Authorities at Timika Airport owned by U.S.-based mining giant PT Freeport Indonesia have been summoned by Transportation Ministry after they rejected to supply fuel to national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia.

Following the fuel dispute, Garuda had threatened to halt flights to Timika, Tempointeraktif.com reported on Monday.

Garuda spokesman Pujobroto said the spat was apparently triggered when the airline declined on Sunday Freeport president director Armando Mahler and his colleagues request to change flight from Jayapura to Timika into an earlier flight, which unexpectedly transited in Jayapura due to a bad weather en route from Denpasar to Timika.

Garuda defended its decision, saying there was not enough time to process all Freeport group documents and accept them in the flight.

However, after the flight landed in Timika, the airport authorities refused to supply it with fuel. On its way back to Denpasar, the flight finally had to make a stopover in Biak to recharge fuel.

"Timika Airport authorities will come to Jakarta on Tuesday," Air tranportation director general Herry Bakti Singayudha Gumay said as quoted by Kompas.com

Herry said the ministry would question the airport decision to stop fuel supply to Garuda.

The ministry would evaluate Timika airport status as an international airport because of the incident, he added.

Newly appointed Deputy Transportation Minister Bambang Susantono has questioned the long-delayed, budget-busting construction of Kuala Namu International Airport in Medan, North Sumatra.

In a recent statement released by the Transportation Ministry, Bambang expressed disappointment after inspecting the airport project last week.

“We will review the entire project’s management to find ways to streamline the financing and at the same time accelerate the construction,” Bambang said.

The project was kicked off in 2006 in an ambitious move to replace the existing Polonia International Airport, and will be situated closer to the Medan city center.

With 3,750-meter twin runways and a 65,000-square-meter passenger terminal, Kuala Namu is set to become be the country’s second-biggest airport after Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

Then vice president Jusuf Kalla said at the time the airport was expected to be up and running in 2009.

As of the end of last year, however, the project was only 25 percent complete.

The government has revised the project completion target several times, triggered mostly by land acquisition problems. The latest estimate puts the airport at 84 percent completion by the end of 2010, and fully operational the next year.

Bambang said a review was needed to prevent any further delays to the project.

A key part of the review should focus on the project’s budget, he said.

The project was initially estimated to cost Rp 3.5 trillion (US$371 million), but was later revised to Rp 4.4 trillion — a 26 percent increase.

“How could this happen? Is it in line with the initial technical plans?” Bambang said.

“The budget difference is significant. I want to know why. I was informed differently during my previous meetings.”

In response, one of the local officials in charge of the project, Joko Waskito, said some unexpected expenses had cropped up during construction.

For instance, he said, the land for the runways turned out to be very unstable.

“We had to make some design adjustments due to the land condition,” he claimed, adding the process had proved very expensive.

Another factor was the compensation that had to be paid to the contractors due to the delays, Joko said.

“Some of the contractors in this project have only signed on until 2010, whereas the project is expected to finish in 2011,” he said.

Kita lihat aja ketika kondisinya sama-sama normal..!!

Garuda to go public in first quarter
Saturday, January 9, 2010 21:23 WIB | Economic & Business

Banda Aceh (ANTARA News) - State Enterprises Minister Mustafa Abubakar said here on Saturday PT Garuda Indonesia would go public in the first quarter this year.

"Let us pray it will be warmly welcomed by investors so that the target of shares to be sold will be met," he said at the launching of an environment program held by the state-owned airline company in cooperation with International Leuser Foundation (YLI) in Aceh.

He said PT Garuda would sell 25 percent of its shares to the public to raise Rp2.5 trillion to strengthen its capital.

Mustafa expressed his appreciation to the company that had been able to achieve a four-star ranking or one grade lower for the company to get the world`s highest ranking.

"We hope PT Garuda which is under the supervision of the office of the state enterprise minister will be able to achieve the five-star status so that the public listing program will be smooth," he said at the event which was also attended by Garuda president director Emirsyah Satar and Aceh governor Irwandi Yusuf.

PT Garuda Indonesia is optimistic the initial public offering could be realized in the first semester this year.

"Right now preparations are already being done including selecting the underwriters," he said.Emirsyah meanwhile said the IPO plan was part of the company`s restructuring program to improve its performance.

The proceeds from the IPO are expected to reach US$300 million and will be used to finance additional fleets, refurbishment as well as improving services," he said.

He said the result of the IPO would be dependable upon market conditions. "We will adapt it to the domestic capital market conditions," he said.

Emirsyah said until 2014 the number of the company`s fleets would be increased to 116 units from currently 67 units. The increase in the number of fleets will be followed by a hike in routes to serve and flight frequencies to reach 3,000 flights per week from currently around 1,700 flights.(*)

PTDI to hand over aircraft to S Korea by end of 2010
Saturday, January 9, 2010 07:41 WIB | Economic & Business

Bandung (ANTARA News) - State aircraft manufacturer PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) is scheduled to hand over one of four CN-235/ MPA (Maritime Patrol Aircraft) ordered by South Korea, by the end of 2010.

"Four CN-235/ MPA aircraft are currently under construction by PTDI to meet the South Korean order. One of the planes would be handed over to South Korea by the end of 2010," PT Dirgantara Indonesia`s chief spokesman Rokhendi said in Bandung Friday.

He said the four CN-235/MPA planes are ordered by South Korea under a contract signed in 2008 at a total cost of 94.5 million US dollars. The production of the four aircraft would be completed in 2012.

"The planes will however be handed over to the South Korean side in stages," Rokhendi said.

Rokhendi added that the MPA planes will join the South Korean maritime police.
South Korea has been using the PTDI-built CN-235 planes, including two are of the VVIP version.

The CN-235/ MPA planes are the latest version for maritime patrol operations, and are equipped with radar to detect ships sailing below.

The military version of the CN-235 planes is also equipped with anti-submarine torpedoes and other special arms.

"The MVA version has become particularly popular to countries with vast territorial seas," Rokhendi said.

In addition, PTDI has also received an order for three CN-235/ MPA planes from the Indonesian navy under a contract signed in December 2009.

"The first plane, the construction of which was started this year, will be handed over in 2011," Rokhendi said.

In the meantime, the first CN-235/ MPA produced by PTDI had already been handed over to the Navy in 2008. The plane modified from the CN-235, is very suitable for marine patrol and for personnel transportation.

PTDI is also still building three Supar Puma helicopters ordered by the Indonesian Air Force. Super Pumas are only one tipe of the choppers built by PTDI.

"PTDI is currently producing Super Puma and N-Bell choppers, while NBO-105 choppers are no longer produced as the license with Messoshmit Bolkow Blohm (MBB) has expired," he added. (*)

Emirates airline will advance its existing operation to Jakarta with the introduction of a double-daily service, effective 1st March 2010.
Presently, Emirates operates 11 flights a week to the Indonesian capital city.

The three additional flights will be operated on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, using the Boeing 777 family of technologically-advanced aircraft in two-class configurations. The expansion will introduce over 2600 seats per week.

The growth in services follows the recent launch of an additional flight in December 2009, underscoring the increased economic and cultural ties between the UAE and Indonesia.

Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations Far East and Australasia, Mr. Richard Jewsbury noted: “Emirates is grateful to the Indonesian regulatory authorities for their continuing support. Indonesia is one of our most important markets in the region and we look forward to serving the country’s growing demand for air travel services.

“Indonesia is gaining popularity among Middle East travellers, demonstrated by a 20% annual growth in arrivals from the region. On its part the government has taken several steps to promote inbound tourism including visa on arrival for travellers from many Gulf countries. Also, several thousand Indonesians live and work in Dubai and require air transport to visit their homeland.

“In the reverse direction, Indonesian corporate travellers seek connectivity to key commercial centres in Europe, the Americas, Africa and Middle East to advance their trade. Emirates’ additional services will cater to this rising demand on the Dubai-Jakarta-Dubai sectors.”

Emirates recently announced an expansion in Europe bringing its network in the continent to 25 gateways. The Dubai-based airline will launch daily flights to Amsterdam (1st May), Prague (1st July) and Madrid (1st August) offering more opportunities to Indonesian businesses.

Indonesian exports of textiles, leather products, fruit, fish, medical and computer equipment will benefit from the increased access to global markets. Likewise, imports of chemicals, cosmetics, machine parts and foodstuff will receive a boost as cargo-carrying capacity escalates by 27 % to 233 tonnes per week per direction.

A winner of more than 400 international awards, Emirates operates one of the aviation world’s youngest, most environmentally-friendly and technologically advanced-fleet of 143 aircraft. Its rapidly-expanding network spans 101 cities in 62 countries in Europe, North America, South America, the Middle East, Africa, the Indian subcontinent and Asia Pacific.

Five airports ready for open sky policy
The Jakarta Post , Jakarta | Fri, 01/15/2010 8:44 PM | Business

The Transportation Ministry is set to issue a ministerial decree that will declare five international airports in the country subject to the ASEAN open sky agreement.

Air Transportation Director General Herry Bakti S. Gumay said Friday the ministry had completed the draft decree.

“We are looking forward to issuing the decree by the end of this month,” he added.

The ministry is currently preparing the Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Jakarta, Kuala Namu in Medan, Juanda in Surabaya, Ngurah Rai in Denpasar, and Hasanuddin in Makassar, for the open sky policy. The Kuala Namu Airport is under construction and expected to operate in July next year.

Herry said other international airports in the country would continue accepting inter-regional flights through bilateral agreements.

The ASEAN open sky agreement took effect in December 2008, and is slated for completion by 2015. The agreement allows regional air carriers to take unlimited flights to all 10 ASEAN member countries. (adh)

Garuda Indonesia Introduces "Immigration On Board" Service

As part of its effort to implement ongoing service improvements, especially to facilitate more simple visa arrangements for tourists traveling to Indonesia, Garuda Indonesia - flag carrier of Indonesia - will introduce a new service “Immigration on Board” on Tokyo – Denpasar - Jakarta route starting 1 February 2010.

The trial of the service was carried out on Thursday (21/1) on Garuda Indonesia GA-881 flight which flying from Tokyo – Denpasar – Jakarta. The soft launch of the service witnessed by Ambassador of Indonesia to Japan Yusuf Anwar, Director General of Immigrations, Muhammad Indra, Director of Travel Documents, Visa and Immigration, Djoni Muhamad, and President & CEO Garuda Indonesia, Emirsyah Satar. “Immigration on Board” is a non queue and more simple immigration document process for foreign passenger during flight.

To enjoy the Immigration on Board service, foreign travelers (Japanese citizens) are requested to purchase “Visa on Arrival’ vouchers available at Garuda Indonesia check-in counters at Narita Airport, Tokyo. During flight, two immigration officers on board will conduct passport checks and issue “Visa on Arrival” and a special card that must be returned to ground immigration officers upon arrival (in Bali or Jakarta) before exiting the airport. Thanks to this new service, passengers will save time and enjoy hassle-free travel, without having to wait long queues at the immigration counters.

Garuda Indonesia President & CEO, Emirsyah Satar says that the Immigration on Board service is part of Garuda Indonesia's ongoing efforts to provide innovative services as the airline continues to improve service quality towards its customers. The launching of Immigration on Board gives foreign travelers the freedom to bypass queues at the immigration counters and have a more pleasant travel experience in Indonesia. On the part of the airline, this new service is testimony of its commitment to further the national tourism industry.

Garuda Indonesia plans to introduce Immigration on Board on flights to other Japanese destinations, namely Nagoya and Osaka, by the end of the year. While on other routes, the service will be a top priority for immediate implementation.

Garuda Indonesia launches Garuda Orient Holiday (GOH)

In an effort to increase the number of foreign visitors, particularly from Japan, to come and visit Indonesia, Garuda Indonesia recently launched the Garuda Orient Holiday (GOH) for Japan on Wednesday (20/1).

The launching took place in Tokyo, Japan and was officiated by the Ambassador of Indonesia to Japan, HE Jusuf Anwar and President & CEO Garuda Indonesia, Emirsyah Satar. Also attending the occasion were Garuda Indonesia's business partners, namely the Japan Tourism Board, wholeseller agents, travel agents, and other members of the hospitality and tourism industries.

GOH Japan is an in-house whole seller or unit that develops tour and travel packages to various Indonesian destinations for the Japanese market which is managed by Aerowisata, subsidiary of Garuda Indonesia. The products offered by GOH complement those already marketed in Japan. GOH's tour packages include ecotourism, adventure, special interests and others for the premium market.

In support of its future business development program that encompasses route development, frequency and capacity in regions other that Japan, Garuda Indonesia has already established GOH in Australia, New Zealand and Korea. Meanwhile, Garuda Indonesia Holiday (GIH) was designed to cater for the domestic tourism industry.

Apart from increasing Garuda Indonesia's market share in the air travel market, the establishment of Garuda Orient Holiday (GOH) and Garuda Indonesia Holiday (GIH) will hopefully raise the flow of tourists to Indonesia, contributing to the success of Indonesia's tourism programs.
