After Garuda with A320 and Sriwijaya with Embraer orders, surprise surprise, sky aviation, a new airline in Indonesia orders superjet from Sukhoi.

Sukhoi signs deal with Indonesia for dozen Superjet 100s

16:37 21/06/2011
LE BOURGET, June 21 (RIA Novosti)

Russia's Sukhoi Civil Aircraft signed on Tuesday a contract with Indonesian PT Sky Aviation for the delivery of 12 Superjet 100 passenger aircraft, a deal worth $379.2 million.

The contract, signed at the Paris Air Show in Le Bourget, stipulates the delivery of the aircraft in 2011-2015.

The Superjet 100 is a family of medium-haul passenger aircraft developed by Sukhoi in cooperation with U.S. and European aviation corporations, including Boeing, Snecma, Thales, Messier Dowty, Liebherr Aerospace and Honeywell.

The aircraft is capable of carrying 75-98 passengers at a distance of up to 4,400 kilometers.

The aircraft will replace the outdated Tu-134 planes. EASA certification is expected this year.

The first commercially-produced Superjet 100 was handed over to the Armenian airline Armavia on April 19. The plane has already made over 100 flights, carrying more than 3,000 passengers and traveling a distance of about 100,000 kilometers (62,137 miles).

The second plane was delivered to Aeroflot on June 9.

Aeroflot has ordered 30 Superjet 100 aircraft and is planning to order 10 more. Initially the planes will be used to carry out domestic flights from Moscow to St. Petersburg, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Ufa and Samara, but they will later also be used for international flights.

Garuda Indonesia Orders Two CAE Flight Simulators
Monday, 27 June 2011

http://www.asiatraveltips.com/news11...ndonesia.shtml

Garuda Indonesia has sign a contract with CAE for two CAE 7000 Series Level D full-flight simulators (FFS) with CAE TroposTM-6000 visual systems.

The FFSs will replicate the Airbus A330 and Boeing 737NG aircraft, and will be ready for training by the end of this year.

"Garuda Indonesia has been aggressively expanding its network and services in recent years, and they require a growing number of pilots," said Jeff Roberts, CAE’s Group President, Civil Simulation Products, Training and Services. "These new flight simulators will help them maintain pace with their growth plans by providing the highest-quality training environment."

The airline is currently using CAE-built FFSs for the Boeing 737 Classic configuration and MD-11, as well as a CAE Simfinity Integrated Procedures Trainer (IPT) for the Boeing 737NG and A330.

Garuda orders four new A330-300s
By Quintella Koh

http://www.flightglobal.com/articles...a330-300s.html

Garuda Indonesia has placed a firm order for four Airbus A330-300s, which will take the carrier's A330 fleet to 23 aircraft.

It will also convert three A330-200s, dating from a July 2010 order for six aircraft, to -300 variants, said Airbus.

No engine choice was specified, but Garuda's existing A330s are powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 700s.

The airline will use the new -300s on Middle Eastern routes from its hubs in Denpasar and Jakarta.

Garuda also has seven A330-200s and six A330-300s on lease.

Garuda posted a net loss of Rp183.6 billion ($21.5 million) for its fiscal first quarter ended 31 March, down from a net profit of Rp18 billion a year earlier. The loss was caused by higher fuel costs and operating expenses.

As of 31 March, Garuda operated 85 aircraft, up from 73 a year earlier. It aims to retire seven Boeing 737 Classic aircraft this year.

Looks like Garuda is finally picking up their act.

Are they still banned from flying to the EU?

the ban has been lifted since July 2009. Garuda Indonesia is listed as a 4-star airline by Skytrax, and is also listed among Skytrax's Quality Approved Airlines and announced that it will join the SkyTeam airline alliance by 2012, also aims to achieve a 5-star Skytrax rating by 2013.

Garuda teams with Korean Air on frequent flyer program
The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Mon, 06/27/2011 11:17 PM

Flag carrier Garuda Indonesia announced a joint frequent flyer program with Korean Air, which took effect June 21, the airline said in a statement on Saturday.

Members of the Garuda Frequent Flyer (GFF) program and Korean Air’s SkyPass program will benefit from the cooperation by accruing mileage for flying both Korean Air and Garuda or any Garuda–Korean Air code share flights.

“With the new program, GFF and SkyPass members are also allowed to redeem the mileage for free flights with Korean Air or Garuda and will only be required to pay taxes, service fees and insurance,” Garuda spokesman Pujobroto said in the statement.

The mileage can also be redeemed for merchandise from both Garuda and Korean Air flights. Korean Air currently serves more than 130 domestic and international routes.

The joint frequent flyer program is Garuda’s first step in improving its services before it fully joins the SkyTeam global airline alliance in 2012.

By that time, GFF membership will provide various competitive features, allowing the members to accrue and redeem mileage on flights with all of Garuda’s partners.

GFF currently has more than 500,000 members.

Garuda joined SkyTeam on Nov. 23, 2010. Korean Air was a founding airline along with Aeromexico, Air France and Delta Airlines.

Established in 2000, SkyTeam boasts service to 921 airports in 168 countries as of June 2011. The world’s second-largest airline alliance operates over 14,000 flights with a combined fleet of 3,400 aircraft, including those from other associated airlines.

Garuda also opened a new sales office at the Margo City in Depok, West Java, on Thursday.

The director of strategic, business development and risks management at Garuda, Achirina, said in a statement that the new office was expected to cover a broader market in the economically growing Depok.

“The new sales office will facilitate residents living in and around Depok and make it easier for them to access Garuda’s products and services. In addition to the increasing number of universities and housing complexes, the economy in Depok is also growing. This is an area with potential,” she said in the statement.

Depok economic office head Diah Sadiah praised the expansion.

“Garuda’s new sales office will make it easier for Depok’s residents to reserve and book tickets and enjoy Garuda’s other services,” she said in the statement.

Garuda now has 15 sales offices in Greater Jakarta and 32 branch offices throughout Indonesia. (swd)

Indonesia seats in big demand

Thursday, 21 July 2011

Australian carriers have asked the International Air Services Commission for an extraordinary 10,150 extra seats per week capacity on routes to Indonesia – all within a couple of weeks.

Early in the month, as we reported in our online news, Virgin Australia sought 2800 seats, telling the IASC the additional services would be to Bali. Uptake of the allocation would be in steps, with plans for 900 of the extra seats to be utilised by April 2012, a further 900 a year later and the remaining 1000 by April 2014.

Now Jetstar wants an extra 7350 seats, spread across A320 and A330 operations.

Qantas/Jetstar told IASC it would utilise the additional capacity fully by April 2014.
As we reported earlier, the Indonesia route has been opened up by an MoU, announced on July 1 by the two countries. This allows an extra 25,000 seats weekly for Australian carriers on routes from the main gateways, plus a bonus 2500 if flights call at regional ports such as Adelaide, Darwin and Cairns. An open codeshare protocol also now applies.- Kelvin King
