Garuda adds more extra flights for year-end holiday

Quote:
Flag carrier Garuda Indonesia is adding more than 14,000 seats in 54 additional flights to anticipate increasing numbers of passengers during the upcoming Christmas and New Year holiday seasons. The additional flights are Jakarta-Denpasar with 26 extra flights, Jakarta-Singapore (22 flights) and Surabaya-Denpasar (6 flights) for a total of 14,658 seats from Dec. 23 to Jan. 7.

Garuda has also established a special team to monitor and organize service for passengers during the holiday, the state-owned airline’s spokesman Pujobroto said Tuesday. “Garuda implements flexible response operational policy,” he was quoted as saying by tribunnews.com. The airline has also increased the number of its ground handling staffers at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Cengkareng, Banten. (iwa)

Some says, Safety Reasons ... I believe that.

Some other says, Indonesia as the place where DOMESTIC Aviation is quite booming, as a place of BATTLE GROUND between BOEING and AIRBUS. EU Ban was "said" to be a bargaining chip for them to force Indonesian carrier to buy AIRBUS.

I remembered at that time, Lion Air and Garuda sealed the the deal with BOEING. Well, the second reason is just a rumor....

Mayb, but I simply can't resist not to believe it . It is funny that despite for having no flight at all to Europe (during the time when we were still banned) -- some still bother to ban Indonesia.

Indonesia aviation is never banned by Japan and North American Authority despite of poor safety record.

No it is not that funny.
For example travel insurance from european insurer will not cover the trips on airlines that are on the blacklist. So even though those blacklisted airlines do not fly to Europe, they will still be affected as european travel agents will not do business with them.

I thought the EU has exempted Garuda from the ban since 2009?

Yes. Garuda and several other Indonesian airlines are now off the list.

Garuda, Bombardier team up for maintenance and repair center

Quote:
Garuda Indonesia’s president director Emirsyah Satar said on Thursday that the airline would team up with Canada-based Bombardier Inc. to build a maintenance and repair center in Indonesia.

It followed the closing of a deal to buy Bombardier aircraft.

The center would be important to support Garuda's operations and to expand its business by maintaining and repairing aircraft from the Asia-Pacific region, he said.

Citilink, RBS Aviation ink deal on 4 Airbus A320-200s

Quote:
Flag carrier Garuda Indonesia's strategic business unit, Citilink, will receive four Airbus A320-200 aircraft in a leasing cooperation agreement with RBS Aviation Capital, the state-owned airline says.

Garuda Indonesia Group CEO Emirsyah Satar and RBS Aviation Capital senior vice president Nicolas Clouet signed the memorandum of understanding Thursday at the Singapore Airshow in Changi.

“With the growing number of aircraft, Citilink has targeted to be one of the main low-cost carriers, in terms of number of passengers, in Indonesia,” Emirsyah said in a press statement sent to The Jakarta Post.

Tiger Air plans April start for Indonesia carrier

(Reuters) - Singapore's low-cost carrier, Tiger Airways Holdings Ltd, will start its Indonesian joint venture PT Mandala Airlines in April and gradually boost its fleet size to 10 new Airbus A320 jets over the year, chief executive Chin Yau Seng told Reuters on Monday.

The move will enable Tiger (TAHL.SI), 33 percent owned by Singapore Airlines Ltd (SIA.L) (SIAL.SI), to tap one of the world's fastest-growing air transport markets. Mandala will have the same fleet size as Tiger's operation in Australia by March 2013.

Tiger completed its acquisition of a 33 percent stake in the troubled Indonesian carrier in January and leased two Airbus A320 planes to Mandala. Last week, the airline successfully reactivated its license and said it will resume flights in April.

Chin said the carrier is scheduled to take delivery of 10 Airbus A320s during the 2012-2013 financial year, of which two will be used to replace aircraft that it will return to the lessor and the remaining eight will go to Mandala.
